Paweł Kowalski, pianist; b. 6th July 1965 in Lodz, studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, from which he graduated with honours in 1989 and at the Vancouver Academy of Music on a personal grant from Witold Lutosławski.
After a brilliant 1989 Warsaw début in Witold Lutosławski´s Piano Concerto with the composer on the conductor´s podium, Paweł Kowalski has been giving concerts in many European countries, the United States and Canada. He has appeared at the Konzerthaus in Berlin, ORF RadioKulturhaus in Vienna, BBC Concert Hall in London, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Conservatoire in Brussels, National Philharmonic, Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw.
He has been soloist with the Sinfonia Varsovia conducted by Yehudi Menuhin at the orchestra´s anniversary concert in 1994 and has played piano concertos by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Ravel, Chausson, Ireland, De Falla, Scriabin, Rachmaninov, Shostakovitsch, Poulenc, Gershwin, Barber, Lutosławski, Panufnik, Górecki, Kilar and Szpilman with many celebrated orchestras.
He has been invited to several music festivals including the BBC Polish Season in London, Europalia Brussels, Klavierfestival Ruhr, Carinthischer Sommer, Warsaw Autumn, Jazz Jamboree, Musikfestwochen Meiringen, Musikwoche Braunwald, Concentus Moraviae, Sofia Music Weeks, Liepaja Piano Stars Festival, Chopin Festivals in Gaming, Marianske Lazne, Duszniki and Antonin, Warsaw Mozart Festival, Łańcut Music Festival, Polish National Piano Festival, Silesian Quartet and its Guests and others.
Paweł Kowalski has made recordings for Polish Radio and Television, Berliner Rundfunk, MDR, ORF, CBC, BBC, NRK, Czech Radio, BNR, National Radios of Estonia and Latvia. He has made CDs with music by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin and Zarębski.
