Artur Zagajewski,

composer; b. 10th April 1978 in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. He graduated with honours from the music theory class of Ryszard Daniel Golianek (2005) and the composition class of Bronisław Kazimierz Przybylski (2008) at the Academy of Music in Łódź. In 2004-2006 he attended the classes at the Computer Music Studio run by Krzysztof Knittel at the Academy of Music in Łódź. In 2012, he defended his doctoral dissertation in composition, written under the supervision of Zygmunt Krauze. He has participated in courses led by Marek Choloniewski (Academy of Music in Kraków) and Grażyna Pstrokonska-Nawratil (Academy of Music in Wrocław).

He is an award winner in competitions such as "850 Jahre Cottbus – Musikalische Bilder einer Stadt" for Lichtspiele in der Oberkirche for accordion and string orchestra (honourable mention, 2006), BMW Crash! of the Zachęta Contemporary Art Association in Szczecin (honourable mention in 2006 and main prize in 2007), Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers (2nd Prize in 2007 for Glassmusic-motet for female voice, cello, accordion, piano and tape and in 2009), Krzysztof Komeda Composers’ Competition in Słupsk (honourable mention in 2007 za Secession Club for alto saxophone and tape), Silver Glass Children’s and Youth Contemporary Music Festival in Cracow (honourable mention, 2009), Grażyna Bacewicz International Composer Competition in Łódź (1st Prize, 2009) and the in-OUT-side competition of the Sound Screen Festival in Bydgoszcz (main prize, 2009). In 2010 he was awarded the Eureka Łódź Prize. In 2014 his Stabat Mater was nominated for the Polonica Nova Award in Wrocław. In May 2017 his piece brut represented Poland (Polish Radio) and received the highest place at the International Rostrum of Composers in Palermo. Also in 2017, Artur Zagajewski's successes were summarized with a prestigious nomination for the Corypheus of Polish Music Award in the Personality of the Year category. In 2018 his was nominated for the Polityka's Passport award.

His works have been performed at festivals such as "Warsaw Autumn", "Musica Polonica Nova" (NFM, Wrocław), the Festival of Premieres (NOSPR, Katowice), the 7th KODY Festival of Musical Tradition and Avant-Garde (Lublin), Loop Festival (Brussels), Internationaal Kamermuziekfestival (Schiermonnikoog, Netherlands), the 33rd International Ankara Music Festival (Turkey), Lodz Nacht in Stuttgart (Germany), Sound perspectives of the screen. Musical laboratory of arts: film – electro- acoustics – intermedia (Bydgoszcz), Fokus Lodz Biennale, The Colours of Poland and the contem.ucha cycle (Łódź Philharmonic), Music at the Old Monastery (Łódź), the International Festival of Acoustic, Electronic Music and Multimedia Projection in Brno (Czechia), Łóź Musical Easter, the Sound Screen Festival (Bydgoszcz), the Łódź„Ballet Meetings” International Ballet Festival, "Musica Moderna" (Academy of Music in Łódź), as well as at the CRICOTEKA Centre for Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor (Kraków).

Between 2005 and 2008 he cooperated with the video artist Michał Brzeziński, and their works were shown in galleries in Poznań, Warsaw, Szczecin, Katowice, Gdańsk and Wrocław. In 2016 he was invited to participate in the MusMa European Broadcasting Project. He collaborated with actor Arkadiusz Jakubik, cellist Dominek Połoński, singer Agata Zubel, flautist Ewa Liebchen, harpsichordist Gośka Isphording, choreographer Paulina Wycichowska, performer Zora Wollny, director Piotr Stasik (their Opera about Poland received a nomination to the "Eagles" Polish Film Awards in 2019 in the Documentary category), as well as with the ensembles: Bang on a Can All-Stars, New Music Orchestra, Silesian Quartet, Kwartludium, Contemporary Ensemble Music Cooperative, Hashtag Ensemble, Arte dei Suonatori, Polish Cello Quartet, Small Instruments, Hańba!

Zagajewski conducts research on rock music, presenting it's results in lectures (Popular Music Workshops at the Academy of Music in Łódź, Polish National Conference for Art School Teachers organised by the CENSA Centre for the Education of Art School Teachers and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage) as well as articles ("Glissando", "Operomania"). As part of his popularising work, he conducts lectures and workshops for youth on music of the 20th and 21st century. He was a member of the jury at different festivals, including the mYear Festival of Musical Imagination (Academy of Music in Wrocław). He is also a member of the Polish Composers’ Union and the Programme Committee of the "Warsaw Autumn" International Festival of Contemporary Music.

He is an assistant professor at the Academy of Music in Łódź and music theory teacher at the Stanisław Moniuszko State Secondary Music School in Łódź.
