composer, organist and music teacher, b. 8th May 1947 in Łącko (near Nowy Sącz). He graduated in organ (1971, after studies with Feliks Rączkowski) and composition (1974, after studies with Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz) from the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. In 1973-81, he was the president of the Polish Musical Youth Association “„Jeunesses Musicales de Pologne”, and in 1981-97 – president of the Polish Musical Institute. He was also the initiator and artistic director of the festival “Conversatorium of Organ Music” in Legnica.

Already during his studies, he embarked on a concert career as an organist. He performed in Poland and abroad in such countries as Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Spain, Germany, Italy and Hungary. He has recorded organ music for radio broadcasters as well as record companies such as Polskie Nagrania, Polonia Records, MTJ, Sonoton Pro Viva in Munich, Edition in Berlin. His compositions have been performed in concert and at music festivals in Poland and in such countries as Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Liban, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United States.
He initiated a series of score publications on early and contemporary Polish music for organ, including, among others, the Cracow Organ Tablature (1st half of the 16th century), the Gdańsk Organ Tablature (of 1591) and the Warsaw Organ Tablature (the 17th century).

He has received numerous prizes for his compositions, incl. in 1975 – 1st prize in the Young Composers’ Competition of the Polish Composers’ Union for Nocturnes for baritone and chamber orchestra (1975); in 1978 – 3rd prize in the Artur Malawski Competition for Composers in Cracow for Illustrations for baritone and chamber ensemble (1978), and in 1981 – 2nd prize in the National Competition for Composers in Białystok for Das Echo fernster Glückserinnerung for baritone and chamber ensemble (1981). He was awarded 5 times in the Competition for Composers organised by the Warsaw Branch of the Polish Composers’ Union: in 1982 – 3rd prize for Morning for mixed choir (1982); in 1984 – 2nd prize for Nonet for wind quintet and string quartet (1984); in 1985 – 3rd prize for Miniatures for soprano and chamber ensemble (1985); in 1986 - an honorable mention for Duo for saxophone and percussion (1986); in 1987 – 3rd prize for Fantasy for cello and strings (1987). Also in 1987, he won the 3rd prize in the National Competition for Composers organised by ZAiKS Authors’ Association in Warsaw for his Aphorisms for soprano and chamber ensemble (1987).

In the years 1996-2002 Stanisław Moryto was the prorector of the Academy of Music in Warsaw, in the years 2002-2005 – the dean of the Department of Composition, Conducting and Theory of Music, and then the rector of the instituttion (2005-2012). In addition, he taught at the Józef Elsner State Music Schools in Warsaw. In 2011 he received an honorary doctor’s degree from Keimyung University in Daegu (South Korea).

He received a number of awards and distinctions for his work, incl. the Minister of Culture and Art Award, 3rd class (1980), the Prize of the town of Legnica (2000), Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2001), the Crucem, Magni Officialis from the Grand Master of the Order of Malta (2007), the Saint Albert Chmielowski Award (2008), Włodzimierz Pietrzak Award (2009), the "Fryderyk" Award of the Phonographic Academy in the Composer of the Year category (2010), and the Awards of the Minister of Culture(1995, 2011). In 2012 the President of the Republic of Poland awarded Stanisław Moryto the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for "outstanding achievements in the dissemination of musical culture, for achievements in artistic creation and didactic activity".
