Chamber music, alongside children’s works and songs, is an important part of Władysław Słowiński’s art, and works for string quartet take pride of place. The compositions on this CD (all save the Quartetto piccolo) were written for the Wilanów Quartet and frequently later performed by this ensemble in Poland and abroad, also during the “Warsaw Music Encounters” festival, of which Słowiński is founder and artistic director. The Wilanów Quartet faithfully represents the dominant feature of Słowiński’s style - its expressiveness - from the virtuoso Passionato and the reflective Doloroso to the atmospheric Elegy and the grotesque and humorous Burlesques.
