| The central part of this extremely interesting book is a “subjective chronicle” of fifty Berlin festivals written by Ulrich Eckhardt, director (Intendant) of Berliner Festwochen since 1973, also director of Berliner Festspiele GmbH, a company founded in 1967 which organises, apart from Festwochen, also Filmfestspiele, Theatertreffen and Jazztage. The story is truly breathtaking, animated by the greatest figures in European music. The history of the festival reflects the world’s music life in miniature, but also, interestingly, the vicissitudes of Europe’s political life. These subjects are also present in the collection of articles written by people connected with the festival - observers, culture activists, journalists - which supplement the chronicle itself. This beautiful publication book also contains high quality reproductions of the festival posters. |
