Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

The Polish National Competition ‘20 Looks on Karol Szymanowski’ organized on the 140th birthday and 85th anniversary of the artist's death, will be held on the 21^st of May, 2022 in Cracow. A record number of 64 students of secondary music schools from 10 voivodeships has been registered.

"20 gazes on ..." is planned as a nationwide series of knowledge competitions about the life and work of a selected composer, whose jubilee (birth or death anniversary) falls in a given year. The series with this attractive formula aims to, among others, accustom students to the music of the 20th century – most of the series were devoted to composers of this century. The aim of the event is to popularize knowledge about the life and work of one of the most important composer of the last century in Poland and Europe, perfectly combining modern European musical language with Polish folk tradition. The organizers of the Competition are the Center for Artistic Education and the Archdiocesan Secondary Music School of Fr. card. F. Macharski in Cracow. The President of the Republic of Poland holds the honorary patronage of the event.

The competition is divided in two stages: the first - written, and the second - oral. In each stage, the participant's task will be to identify musical examples and answer a set of questions concerning the composer's life, work and thoughts. The members of the competition jury will include: prof. dr hab. Wiesław Delimat (The Pontifical University of John Paul II, Head of ASM in Krakow – chairman), prof. dr hab. Stanisław Krawczyński (The Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków), dr hab. Małgorzata Janicka-Słysz, prof. AMKP (The Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow), prof. dr hab. Aleksandra Paszek-Trefon (The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice) and Marek Dolewka, PhD (ASM in Krakow – Jury secretary, competition coordinator).

All participants of the competition will receive a diploma of participation and prizes. In addition, the finalists will be honored with cash prizes.

The annual meeting and conference of the International Association of Music Information Centres (IAMIC) will take place in Bonn and Hamburg from 21 to 26 May 2022. For the first time in 20 years, Germany will once again be the host country for the International Association of Music Information Centres, which has members from more than 30 countries worldwide.

On Tuesday, 24 May 2022, you can participate in the conference online. The public conference day under the topic "Musical Life at the Intersection Between Tradition and the Future" will be livestreamed worldwide from the Beethoven House in Bonn. In four panels, top-class experts will deal with how internationalisation and globalisation affect different areas of musical life, and which trends can be observed. The focus will be on the topics of contemporary music and copyright as well as questions of programming, the promotion of young musicians, and music education. Aspects such as digitalisation, climate protection or diversity will be examined as well as the question of what lessons can be learned from the Covid-19 pandemic. Speakers include Steven Walter (Artistic Director of Beethovenfest Bonn), Christiane Wiesenfeldt (Professor of Musicology, University of Heidelberg), Christiane Engelbrecht (Managing Director of International Ensemble Modern Academy), Thomas Schäfer (Director of International Music Institute Darmstadt) and Jürgen Brandhorst (Director of Society for Musical Performance and Mechanical Reproduction Rights GEMA).

The streaming will be realised by a professional camera team in order to offer the participants in front of the screens an exciting conference experience. The form of the webinar allows you to be present not only as a silent spectator, but also to ask questions and actively participate in the discussion.

On the 20^th of May 2022 at 7.00 p.m. on the occasion of the World Accordion Day the Accordionists Research Group of the Stanisław MoniuszkoMusic Academy in Gdańsk invites you to a special concert. Three accordion orchestras will perform in the concert hall of the Academy. The programme will include, among others premiere of compositions by Krzysztof Falkowski Enigma, as well as compositions by A. Chaczaturian, G. Rossini, J. Brahms, F. von Suppe, G. Bizet, M. Lorenc, W. Kilar, N. Rizol.

Performers will be Pulsanti Accordion Orchestra prepared by dr. hab. Paweł Zagańczyk, the Kashubian Accordion Orchestra and the Arti Sentemo Chamber Accordion Orchestra conducted by Zbigniew Czuryła. In the final of the concert over 30 accordionists will play two compositions together.

The Gdańsk Academy of Music has been the organizer of the World Accordion Day for many years. During previous editions lectures and scientific sessions were also organized. The event was held under the patronage of the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA), which brings together accordionists from all over the world.

Toruń Symphony Orchestra invites you to a new project ‘As long as Poland lives in us’, combining music, history, literature and promoting Polish musical heritage. Between the 19^th of May and the 4^th of June 2022 there will be two symphonic concerts, a chamber concert, concerts for children, city games, lectures, a lecture and a concert featuring a military orchestra with a choir accompaniment.

The main goal of the Toruń Symphony Orchestra is to present works characterized by patriotic and liberation ideas, inspired by the poetry of the 19th and 20th centuries. Chamber music concert with the participation of Krzysztof Napiórkowski's trio, a cross-over symphonic concert with the participation of TOS and the Ukrainian band Haydamaky, of writer Andrzej Stasiuk and actor Robert Więckiewicz, as well as concerts for the youngest audience will take place.

The programme of the concert of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic and Andrzej Kosendiak on the 20^th of May 2022 at 7.00 p.m. will consist of two works by Ludwig van Beethoven: the Triple Concerto in C major, with a Polish accent, as well as Symphony No. 7 in A major, which, since its premiere, has provoked all sorts of comments from other composers and which enjoys unflagging popularity.

The soloists of the concert will be Radosław Pujanek - violin, Wojciech Fudala - cello and Michał Rot - piano.
