Katowice | Dopamine, downfall and the asteroid's moon

NOSPR 10 12 23Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

Programme of the concert on the 10th of December, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at NOSPR was composed on the principle of contrast - world premieres by young composers were juxtaposed with classics of contemporary music. This is the programme goal of the entire "Newest Music" series, led by the New Music Orchestra conducted by Szymon Bywalec.

Dimorphos (moon of the asteroid Didymos) by Tomasz J. Opałka for bass clarinet, bassethorn and orchestra, gives performers a lot of scope to use all the interesting effects of modern techniques of performing these low-sounding instruments.

Dopamine by Mateusz Ryczek was composed for trumpet and orchestra. The premiere of the song has a chance to increase this hormone in the listeners!

Historia-theoria-praxis". The conference will be accompanied by two concerts. The programme of the first will include songs by Witold Maliszewski, while the second will feature works for percussion by contemporary Wrocław-based composers.

The initiative to create an international forum for the exchange of ideas and views on various types of discourse about music was born at the Academy of Music in Wrocław in 2008. Subsequent conferences were held in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2021, and were attended by scholars from Europe and both Americas. This year's edition will host researchers from Austria, France, Spain, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Romania, Serbia and the United Kingdom.

The aim of the conference is to present the analysis of a musical work from historical, theoretical and practical perspectives. The range of issues addressed at this year's meeting is broad. Different research approaches will be presented, including semiotic, hermeneutic, axiological and intertextual ones; the authors will use different concepts and methods of analysing and interpreting a musical work in the search for sense and meaning in music.

Attention will be given to the wide application of analysis, including in the study of the relationship between music and the word, in the exploration of issues of genre, style and compositional technique, as well as those of expression and narrative in music.

The question of performance and reception of music will also be raised.

Project co-funded by the state budget, granted by the Minister of Education and Science under the “Excellent Science II” programme (Polska).
