1st National Saxophone Competition ‘Con spirito’

The 1st National Saxophone Competition ‘Con spirito’ for students of primary and secondary music schools will take place in Włocławek on June 9-14, 2023. This year's edition is planned in the online formula (sending of the recordings). The deadline for submitting applications is the 7th of June.

 

2 pieces of different character should be performed (one of them should present technical values).

There are financial and material prizes for the winners, including a special prize for the performance of a work by a Polish composer of the 20th-21st century, funded by the Polish Music Information Center POLMIC.

Dobcczyce | 2nd Instrumental Masterclasses "Enchanted Virtuoso"

On July 3-9, 2023, the 2nd Instrumental Masterclasses "Enchanted Virtuoso" will take place in Dobczyce. They are intended for children (from the age of 8) and youth of art schools of the 1st and 2nd degree and students of music academies. This year, the courses will be conducted by such artists as Łukasz Błaszczyk, Monika Szweda (violin), Grzegorz Frankowski (double bass), Agata Igras (flute), Tomasz Polak (clarinet), Gajusz Kęska (piano) and Konrad Mastyło (ensemble workshops). The deadline for submitting applications is the 27th of June.

During the courses, lecturers will conduct 5 lessons (45 minutes) for each student. Each participant has the opportunity to work with an accompanist (2 x 20 min.).

At the end of the courses, there will be a concert of lecturers and participants (July 8), the programme of which consists of the works of Polish artists. The Polish premiere of Miłosz Magin's Concerto No. 2 for piano, string orchestra and timpani will take place: Gajusz Kęska will perform as the soloist, while Marek Hampel will conduct. During the concert, students selected by the course teachers will have the opportunity to present a piece from their repertoire with the Orchestra of the Cracow Cultural Syndicate.

Marin Alsop new Artistic Director and first Conductor of NOSPR!

The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra based in Katowice announces that Marin Alsop will be the new Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of NOSPR in the 2023/2024 season. Key to Alsop's tenure will be close cooperation with the institution's General and Programme Director, Ewa Bogusz-Moore, in shaping the orchestra's repertoire and further strengthening its national and international reputation.

In the upcoming season, Alsop will conduct a number of symphonic concerts, the final events of the 2nd Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition and the opera Black Mask by Krzysztof Penderecki, which will be recorded by the artists.

Alsop remains the Principal Conductor of the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien (RSO Wien).

'Chopin – Alter Ego'. Arnold & Frączek Percussion Duo on the new Dux record

There has never been such a recording before – brillant marimba and vibraphone belcanto with a touch of glockenspiel, i.e. transcriptions and new compositions by Tomasz Arnold for percussion duo inspired by Fryderyk Chopin.

The premiere concert of the album Chopin – Alter Ego (DUX 1981) performed by virtuosos Arnold & Frączek percussion duo will take place in Radziejowice on the 27th of May, 2023 at 19.00 in the New House of Art, while on the 7th of June at 19.00 the ensemble will perform in Cracow at the Wawel Royal Castle.

During the second meeting of the ‘Elektro’ series at the Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab on the 6th of June, 2023 at 7 p.m., Michał Górczyński - a clarinetist, composer and performer, will present his musical robots and play a concert with them.

The ‘Warsaw Robot-Duets’ project is, on the one hand, a presentation of the capabilities of machines, and on the other, an attempt to transpose into robots the basic movement that causes sound.

The concert of Michał Górczyński and the robots will be preceded by a conversation with the artist who will reveal the secrets of the devices and software he uses. The project will be led by the curator of the cycle, Prof. Wojciech Błażejczyk.

It will be a season of great comebacks and bold steps forward; recognized conductors, and above all, a season of spectacular and colorful music. The exchange of subscriptions will take place from June 4-30, 2023.

Probably for the first time in the history of NOSPR, almost all artistic directors of the Orchestra in the last forty years will stand in front of the orchestra during one season. Meetings with Antoni Wit, Alexander Liebreich and Lawrence Foster among others will take place. We will hear Fifth Symphony by Gustav Mahler, the Eighth by Antonín Dvořák and Piano Concerto No. 2 by Johannes Brahms, the solo part of which will be performed by Garrick Ohlsson.

This season, the works of talented women will be presented: Alma Mahler, Clara Schumann and Grażyna Bacewicz. Both rising stars, among whom there will be e.g. Anna Sułkowska-Migoń, awarded with the ‘Polityka’ Passport, as well as figures with an unwavering reputation and the highest position in the music world, such as Marin Alsop will perform.

The 9th Małopolska Academy of Talents is a unique event that will take place on June 25 - July 2, 2023 in Łąck, Małopolska, organized by the ‘Porta Musicae’ Artistic Association. Thanks to the support of the Małopolskie Voivodeship, the organizers have launched a scholarship programme supporting participation in this year's edition. The deadline for submitting applications is the 5th of June.

The Małopolska Academy of Talents consists of music courses for young instrumentalists who want to broaden their musical horizons and improve their skills under the guidance of well-known teachers. Participants have the opportunity to work with them during individual lessons and joint concerts.

This year, the courses will be led by ten teachers: Jan Kalinowski (cello), Gajusz Kęska (piano), Bartłomiej Kominek (piano duos), Piotr Lato (clarinet), Oriana Masternak (violin), Maria Shetty (viola, orchestral studies), Wioletta Strączek (flute), Marek Szlezer (piano), Małgorzata Wasiucionek-Potera (violin), Marek Żebrowski (piano).

During the courses, there will be concerts of teachers and course participants open to the public. Programme of the concerts will be announced. Admission to the concerts of the Malopolska Academy of Talents is free!

Gdańsk | „My way”: concert on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Dariusz Stanisław Wójcika

Dariusz Stanisław Wójcik, as a person particularly distinguished in the field of artistic creation and cultural activity, was awarded the Medal ‘Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis’ by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. On the 3rd of June, 2023 at 18.00 in the Weta Hall of the Main City Hall of Gdańsk (Długi Targ 46/47 street) a jubilee concert will take place on the occasion of the 60th birthday of a well-known Gdańsk artist.

The soloist will be accompanied by the tenor Jacek Szymański and the pianist Rafał Lewandowski, with whom the artist co-creates many artistic projects. The concert will be conducted by Stanisława Grażyńska, a valued propagator of classical music.
