Moniuszko is back in Berlin. Opera rediscovered!

Paria 23.5.23Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

Paria - Stanisław Moniuszko's opera - discovered years later, dazzles. The work, awarded in 2021 with the International Opera Award, will be performed on 23rd of May, 2023 at 8 p.m. at the Berlin Philharmonic in an excellent concert performance. Choir and Orchestra of the Stanisław Moniuszko Grand Theater Choir and Orchestra in Poznań conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk.

Paria is an opera about the need for freedom inherent in each of us. A moving story about exclusion and the power of prejudice. The concert presentation at the Berlin Philharmonic will take place just before the release of the CD with the recording of Paria, which will be released by the Naxos label.

Iwona Sobotka will play the role of Neala. The part of Idamor will be sung by Dominik Sutowicz, whom the Berlin audience applauded warmly in 2019 during the concert presentation of Halka. The role of Dżares will be performed by Stanislav Kuflyuk, successfully conquering opera stages around the world, recently collaborating with the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Wexford Opera Festival. We will also hear Volodymyr Tyshkov as Akebar, Piotr Friebe as Ratef and Lucyna Białas as Priestess.

Katowice | Silesian Quartet: 'Mieczysław Wajnberg - all string quartets - following the dedication'

NOSPR 23.5.23

Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

The Silesian Quartet invites you to the NOSPR premises on the 23rd of May, 2023 at 19.30. As part of the project ‘Mieczysław Wajnberg - all string quartets - following the dedication’, artists will present String Quartets No. 10, 11 and 16 of this brilliant composer.

Contributing significantly to the rediscovery of Mieczysław Weinberg's music, the Silesian Quartet set itself an extremely demanding task: recording all 17 quartets of this forgotten, Polish-Jewish-Soviet composer. Thanks to this, we have the unique privilege of hearing the complete set of Weinberg's extraordinary quartets live, following the changes taking place in his musical language and following the trail of dedications hidden in the pages of the scores.

The concert will be led by Prof. Marcin Trzęsiok.

Polish Composers' Union towards the plan of liquidation of the Lublin Philharmonic

ZKP

The Polish Composers' Union strongly opposes the plans to transform the Lublin Philharmonic into an opera house. This move would mean the actual liquidation of the Lublin Philharmonic with its long tradition, in favor of establishing an opera - an institution of dubious artistic value and a future difficult to predict.

The Polish Composers' Union brings together composers and musicologists, among them eminent authors of opera and its experts, having factual and functional knowledge of both philharmonic ensembles and opera theaters - their history and present. We object to both the unrealistic plan to establish an opera theater and the fact that it is to be done at the expense of the philharmonic ensemble. The way in which we learn about these advanced plans and the lack of substantive debate, environmental consultations and expert concepts on this matter are astonishing. In such circumstances, the plans of the Lubelskie Voivodship self-government give the impression of unjustified, amateur greed.

dr Mieczysław Kominek
President of the Polish Composers' Union
