On the 15th of October, 2022 at 19:00 Tadeusz Baird Zielona Góra Philharmonic invites you to a chamber concert ‘Polish Song Evening’.

We will hear works by such composers as Stanisław Moniuszko, Władysław Żeleński, Stanisław Niewiadomski or Raul Koczalski performed by Joanna Rot (mezzo-soprano) and Michał Rot (piano).

Wroclaw | Inauguration of the NFM Leopoldinum season

The concert inaugurating the new artistic season of the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra will take place on the 15th of October, 2022 at 6.00 p.m. We will hear works by Mieczysław Weinberg and Mark-Anthony Turnage. The ensemble will be led by Joseph Swensen, while the solo parts will be performed by the clarinetist Waldemar Żarów and the violinist Daniel Hope.

The evening will begin with a short lyrical work by British composer Turnage, Lullaby for Hans. Then we will hear Wajnberg's Concertino for solo violin and strings.

The most anticipated part of the concert will be the first Polish performance of Mark-Anthony Turnage's Lament, a composition written in 2018–2019. The concert will end with the 4th Chamber Symphony for Strings and Clarinet, Op. 153 by Wajnberg - a work that is deeply moving, full of great emotions.

Fr. Prof. Hieronim Feicht Competition 2022

POLMICThe Polish Composers' Union invites musicologists and music theorists who are under 40 on the day of submitting their work to participate in the Fr. Prof. Hieronim Feicht Competition 2022. The deadline for submitting works is the 31st of October.

The aim of the award is to promote the scientific achievements of musicologists and music theorists from all centers in Poland (they do not have to be members of the Polish Composers' Union), encourage them to undertake musicological research, integrate the community and consolidate the research tradition associated with the figure of Fr. Prof. Hieronim Feicht.

Musicological works on any topic, published in Poland in the year of submitting the Award or in the two calendar years preceding the application, are allowed to participate in the Competition. Unpublished works (master's or doctoral) or published abroad are also taken into account. In the case of unpublished works, the date of publication is the date of defense.

The sole patron of the competition is the ZAIKS Authors' Association.

Katowice | 51st Musicology Conference of the Polish Composers' Union 'Music and Expression'

On October 13-15, 2022 at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, the 51st Musicological Conference of the Polish Composers' Union will be held. The theme of this year's symposium is ‘Music and Expression’.

Over 50 participants representing centers of musicology and music theory from all over Poland will attend the event. Special guests who will give plenary lectures will be Karol Berger (Stanford University) and Krzysztof Guczalski (Jagiellonian University).

The conference will also include a discussion devoted to the recently published in Polish translation of Peter Kivy's book The Sound of Feelings, and Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne will present the first volumes of the ‘Res Facta Nova Library’ series. Moreover laureates of the Hieronim Feicht Competition will be awarded.

The conference is co-financed by the Ministry of Education and Science from the ‘Excellent Science’ programme.

Premiere of the film 'Chopin. I'm not afraid of the dark'

POLMICPremiere of the Polish-Korean documentary Chopin. I am not afraid of the dark, directed by Joanna Kaczmarek, weaving the stories of three pianists who share a passion for Fryderyk Chopin's music and historical experiences characteristic of their countries of origin, will take place on the 14th of October, 2022. Won Jae-Yeon, Fares Marek Basmadji and pianist and composer Leszek Możdżer will take us on a touching and mystical journey to finally face the dark challenge.

The picture won the Czech TV award at the Golden Prague International Television Festival.

Will Chopin's compositions and Możdżer's work be able to stop time even for a moment and inspire reflection? ...

On the 14th of October, the film Chopin. I'm not afraid of the dark, will have its premiere in cinemas all over Poland!

Katowice | Prelude to the 11th International Grzegorz Fitelberg Competition for Conductors

On the 14th of October 14, 2022 at 19.00 the Symphony Orchestra of the Silesian Philharmonic will be conducted by Daniel Oren - an outstanding personality and a juror of the upcoming 11th International Grzegorz Fitelberg Competition for Conductors. The concert will be an opportunity to encounter the work of the Competition Patron - the Poem Song of the Falcon and the work of one of his closest friends, Karol Szymanowski.

The solo part in Karol Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 2 - a composition arranged by Grzegorz Fitelberg - will be performed by Jakub Jakowicz. Similarily to the 1st Concerto, this one is dedicated to the composer's friend - violinist Paweł Kochański, author of cadences to both concertos. Jakub Jakowicz will also perform during the Conductors' Competition in 2023.

Katowice | Wojciech Kilar - film music

On the 13th of October, 2022 at 7.30 the virtuoso chamber musicians of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra will present film music by Wojciech Kilar as part of the ‘NOSPR kameralnie’ series.

The list of films with the music of Wojciech Kilar is a summary of the history of Polish cinema and a review of Oscar titles. The composer himself never received an Oscar, but his collaboration with Francis Ford Coppola, Jane Campion, Jerzy Hoffman, Roman Polański, Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Zanussi has became part of the history of filmmaking.

Wroclaw | 4th dimension in the NFM

During the concert in Wrocław on the 13th of October, 2022 pieces from the canon of the most important compositions of chamber music will be performed at 7.00 p.m. with the participation of the German cellist Julius Berger and the Lutosławski Quartet. In the Red Room of the National Forum of Music, Paweł Mykietyn's String Quartet No. 2 and Franz Schubert's famous String Quintet in C major D 956 will be performed.

Paweł Mykietyn's String Quartet No. 2 was commissioned in 2006 by the Polish Music Festival, during which the work was performed by the artists of the Kronos Quartet. In a composition full of intriguing microtone sounds, Mykietyn confronts subtle harmonies with the raw aura created by the sound of harmonics, which make the piece extremely interesting in reception.

Warsaw | Premiere of the Concerto for accordion and strings by Mikołaj Górecki in Warsaw Philharmonic

On the 11th of October, 2022 at 19.00 the Warsaw Philharmonic invites you to the premiere of the Concerto for accordion and strings by Mikołaj Górecki.

The work will be performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and Maciej Frąckiewicz and conducted by Jan Lewtak. The piece was created as part of the ‘Composers’ Commissions’ programme carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

During the monographic concert with the music of Górecki family, the works of Henryk Mikołaj will be represented by Three Pieces in Old Style, created over half a century ago, inspired by the music of the Polish Renaissance.

However, the programme will be dominated by the son’s, Mikołaj Górecki's compositions written over the last three decades.
