is from Dublin, Ireland. He began his musical studies as a trombonist at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin. A graduate in music from Trinity College, Dublin and Queen's University, Belfast, he spent his early career as a music teacher and professional trombonist, performing in a variety of ensembles and orchestras. He has been Information Manager with the Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland's national archive and resource centre for new Irish music, since 1998. During this time, he has developed the centre's extensive information systems and web site on Irish composers and their works.
