International Classical Music Awards to National Forum of Music for special achievements

On the 18th of January, the ICMA jury announced the winners of this year's twenty-six awards. National Forum of Music Witold Lutosławski in Wrocław received the International Classical Music Awards 2023 for special achievements.

The International Classical Music Awards 2023 award ceremony and the gala concert will take place on the 21st of April, 2023 in the Main Hall of the NFM. During the event, the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic will perform directed by maestro Giancarlo Guerrera.

Debut album of the Apeiron Trio for the DUX label

DUX1900On the 18th of January, 2023, the first album of Apeiron Trio Polish Piano Trios will be released by DUX record label.

Three of registered works come from the Romantic and Post-Romantic periods whereas the fourth one, from the end of the 20th century, show an astonishing possibility of dialogue with tradition.

Warsaw | Marek Janowski and Sinfonia Varsovia – extraordinary concert

Another, third meeting of Sinfonia Varsovia with Marek Janowski and Ludwig van Beethoven will take place on the 21st of January, 2023 at 19.00 at the Grand Theatre - National Opera. It can be treated as an invitation to the circle of Dante's paradise, where Beethoven, Schubert, Penderecki and, thanks to Schubert's music, also Mozart already reside.

The concert is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of its own programme ‘Conductor-in-residence’, financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

The opening work, Chaconne in memoria del Giovanni Paolo II, can be read as Sinfonia Varsovia's homage to Krzysztof Penderecki, its longtime music and artistic director.

Opole | Wieniawski Competiion Polish participant

On the 20th of January, 2023 at 19.00 violinist Wojciech Niedziółka and pianist Michał Francuz will perform works by Henryk Wieniawski, Ludwig van Beethoven and Karol Szymanowski.

The 19-year-old virtuoso is a semi-finalist and the highest-ranked Pole that took part in the 16th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań, as well as the finalist of the ‘International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists’ in Weimar. Wojciech Niedziółka works with the Krzysztof Penderecki European Center for Music in Lusławice as a soloist in the ‘Prezentacje’ programme and is a concertmaster of the ‘Penderecki Youth Orchestra’. He is a laureate of the scholarship programme of the National Center for Culture – ‘Young Poland’.

Wrocław | Tristan and Isolde

On one hand, Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche on the other, the sounds of the music drama that forever changed the history of music, and, moreover, the works of Vytautas Barkauskas and Witold Lutosławski - will fill the diverse repertoire of the concert on the 20th of January, 2023 at 19.00.

Witold Lutosławski's Cello Concerto was written in 1969–1970 for the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, who soon premiered the work with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Edward Downes. The outstanding cellist Nicolas Altstaedt will perform as a soloist this evening. The NFM Wrocław Philharmonic will be conducted by maestro Keri-Lynn Wilson.

Laureates of the 30th 'Polityka Passports' announced!

PaszportyPolityki 23During the jubilee 30th ‘Polityka Passports’ gala, which took place on the 17th of January, 2023 at the Grand Theater in Warsaw, 11 artists of Polish culture were awarded in the following categories: film, theatre, literature, visual arts, classical music, popular music and digital culture. 

The award for young artists awarded by ‘Polityka’ is also a summary of 2022 in Polish culture.

In the category of classical music, the award was given to conductor Anna Sułkowska-Migoń, a two-time scholarship holder of the ‘Conductor-in-residence’ programme of the National Institute of Music and Dance. She received this award for ‘huge musicality, sensitivity and extraordinary joy of creating art. For the consistent work that led to international successes last year, especially the victory in the Paris La Maestra competition.

Sound Chronicle of the 2020 ‘Warsaw Autumn’ Festival now available

Still with delay - because of financing troubles with finding funds in previous years - we present to you the next, 2020 edition of the ‘Sound Chronicle of the Warsaw Autumn’.

Unfortunately we did not succeed to obtain enough fundings to produce large sets, as it was the case many years ago (when the 'Sound Chronicle' consisted of 7 to 10 CDs). Therefore, similarily to that of the last year, the 2020 ‘Sound Chronicle of the Warsaw Autumn’ consists of three audio CDs and presents recordings of some concerts, including the inauguration and final event.

Poznań | Premiere performance of 'Don't turn!' dyptych by Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa

Amadeus 15.1.23 prThe Amadeus Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra invites you to the first concert in the New Year on the 15th of January, 2023 at 18.00. The premiere of the diptych for two flutes and chamber orchestra, Don't Turn! by Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa will be performed.

The soloists will be two well-known flutists: Agata Kielar-Długosz and Łukasz Długosz. Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the ‘Composers' Commissions’ programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

After the break, the ensemble conducted by Anna Duczmal-Mróz will perform the Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26 by Max Bruch arranged by Agnieszka Duczmal. The solo part will be performed by the violinist Krzysztof Jakowicz. We will also hear Ernest Bloch's Concerto Grosso No. 2 B.84.

The Musicologist Section of the Polish Composers' Union invites you to participate in the 52nd Musicological Conference of the Polish Composers' Union ‘Polish Music. Tradition and modernity’, which will be held in Rzeszów-Strzyżów on September 7-9, 2023.
