A double album presenting the premiere studio recording of Quo Vadis by Feliks Nowowiejski will be released on February 7, 2017 (composer's birthday anniversary). It features celebrated soloists and contributes to the Nowowiejski Year celebrations.
Quo vadis Op. 30 is considered the most famous work composed by Nowowiejski. It was premiered in Ústí nad Labem in 1907. The inspiration was provided by an internationally-acclaimed novel written by Henryk Sienkiewicz. During the interwar period, the work by Nowowiejski was given approximately 200 performances in 13 languages, throughout Europe and both Americas.
The recording is part of the Feliks Nowowiejski Year 2016 - a series of events announced and officially recognized by the Parliament of the Republic of Poland. The recording sessions were held at the Feliks Nowowiejski Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic in Olsztyn in August and November 2016. The list of artists who have been invited to participate in the project includes Aleksandra Kurzak (soprano), Artur Ruciński (baritone), Rafał Siwek (bass), Sebastian Szumski (baritone), Arkadiusz Bialic (organ), the Górecki Chamber Choir prepared by Włodzimierz Siedlik and the Symphony Orchestra of the Feliks Nowowiejski Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic in Olsztyn directed by Piotr Sułkowski.
The album (released by DUX label) was produced by the Institute of Music and Dance and Feliks Nowowiejski Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic in Olsztyn, and co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Marshal Office of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship.
