Jelenia Góra | Karola Szymanowski's „Stabat mater”

fd

On 29 March 2018 roku at 7.00 p.m. at the Lower Silesian Philharmonic there will a concert featuring Karol Szymanowski's Stabat Mater  for soprano, alto, baritone, mixed in choir and orchestra op. 53.

On this special evening, the Lower Silesian Philharmonic will present Karol Szymanowski's meaningful and extremely deep music of Stabat Mater. As S. Golachowski writes in his monograph about the composer: "This is one of those highest-class music appraisals that fully deserve the name of a masterpiece." Six parts of the work combine ascetic, in terms of means and technique, music with personal emotions. The impression is enhanced by the Polish translation of the sequence, made by J. Jankowski and selected by Szymanowski as the basis of the work.

In the second part of the concert, we will hear Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 49 in F minor, La Passione. The title of the symphony does not come from the composer himself. It refers to the melancholy and disturbing atmosphere of the work, associated precisely with the Passion of the Christ, and perfectly fitting this solemn evening.

The works will be presented by the Lower Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra  and the Choir of the University of Wrocław GAUDIUM under the direction of Jerzy Kosk. The soloists will be Barbara Kubiak (soprano), Elżbieta Kaczmarzyk-Janczak (alto) and Kamil Pękala (baritone).
