Warsaw | "Sinfonia Varsovia to Its City" – Four Dimensions of Music

SV

The 18th edition of the Franciszek Wybrańczyk Sinfonia Varsovia to Its City Festival is approaching (16–23 June 2018, Warsaw). This year, the Orchestra has readied four extraordinary concerts of symphonic music for the residents of Warsaw. The organisers of the Festival encourage listeners to follow the programme and discover completely different dimensions of classical music in the best possible presentation.

This year the Festival will begin and conclude in the newly-built Concert Pavilion in the Orchestra’s home in the Praga-Południe district of Warsaw. For the other two concerts, Sinfonia Varsovia will appear in the Dominicans’ church in the Służew district of Warsaw and on Defilad Square, in the heart of the city. A star-studded cast of soloists and conductors will appear together with Sinfonia Varsovia in the Festival venues.

"Fairy-Tale Opening" (16.06, 4:00 p.m.) is a meeting with music to arouse the imagination and allow listeners to weave their own fantastic interpretations of musical stories. The concert will open with Stanisław Moniuszko’s Fairy Tale fantastic overture. During the "Mozart at Dusk" (19.06, 8:30 p.m.) concert Olga Pasiecznik will sing concert arias written by the most famous of the Viennese classics. The concert will also include the Overture to the Marriage of Figaro and two neo-classical orchestral miniatures composed by two Polish composers – Stefan Kisielewski and Henryk Czyż. During the Musical Feast! (21.06, 8:00 p.m.) Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will meet Wojciech Kilar, Astor Piazzolla and Stanisław Moniuszko. The stage during Father’s Day Finale (23.06, 4:00 p.m.) will be taken up by father & son team of conductor Jean-Jacques and pianist Alexandre Kantorow. The programme includes music inspired by folk melodies, containing the characteristic traits of the culture of two nations – Hungarians and Italians.

Tickets to concerts in the Concert Pavilion are priced 15 and 10 PLN. Admission to other concerts is free.
