The history of Karol Szymanowski Music Days dates back to 1977, when on the initiative of Maciej Pinkwart, custodian of the Karol Szymanowski Museum in the Villa "Atma", the first festival devoted to Karol Szymanowski was organized in Zakopane. Until 1987, the Days were held in March and later in September. Starting from the tenth edition, the festival takes place in July and symphony and chamber concerts are organized not only in the "Atma", but also in Zakopane's churches and galleries. The unique and individual character of the Festival is determined by the combination of classical music with authentic Podhale music, which was a source of inspiration for Karol Szymanowski in the last period of his work.

The Festival is organised by the Karol Szymanowski Music Society.
