WarszeMuzik is a series of interventions in the public space of Warsaw, consisting in the implementation of micro-chamber concerts in selected surviving pre-war yards in the Warsaw ghetto area. During this year's edition, the concerts will take place on 5, 12, 19 and 26 August 2018.
The area of the former ghetto, located in the very center of modern Warsaw, is a screaming sign, a material and cultural gap in the middle of the city. This sign remains for many Warsaw residents displaced or forgotten. The decaying Jewish tenements give way to the office buildings of the Warsaw "city", the traces of old Warsaw disappear with the development of a modern metropolis. Concerts from the series WarszeMuzik are a gesture of memory, but also a local celebration of the tenements, during which residents can establish or strengthen mutual relations. The concerts' audinece, living in the few ghetto outposts, as well as in the neighborhood, can interpret their everyday environment as a sign and define themselves in this space.
The programme of the concerts includes forgotten works by Polish composers of Jewish origin, working during the interwar period and associated with Warsaw: Władysław Szpilman, Mieczysław Wajnberg, Aleksander Tansman, Tadeusz Kassern, Roman Palester and others.
The curators of the cycle are flutist Ania Karpowicz and pianist Marek Bracha. They will take part in the concerts along with Hashtag Ensemble.
