Białystok | Polish Dance Theatre

OiFP

The Polish Dance Theater from Poznań will perform at the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic on September 26, 2018 at 7.00 p.m. The ensemble will present a dance performance Let the living bury the dead.

The performance is the result of cooperation between two artists: choreographer Prof. Aleksandra Dziurosz, originator and director of the Warsaw Dance Theater, director of Warsaw Dance Days, currently deputy director of the Institute of Music and Dance, and theater director Tomasz Szczepanek. The author of the electronic music which accompanies the performance is Aldona Nawrocka, composer, improviser and pianist.

The work is inspired by the Romantic tradition, primarily by Adam Mickiewicz's Dziady. All dancers will appear on stage wearing black and white costumes, then one will disappear. The performers and the audience will face questions about our attitudes towards the final end. How do we deal with the fact of death on an emotional, religious or moral level? What are the rituals of mourning? How to keep the dead in memory while allowing them to leave? How to overcome the pain after losing someone and find support in the living?

The performance was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Project implemented in cooperation with the Institute of Music and Dance as part of the "Dance Stage 2018" programme.
