On October 24, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Chamber Hall of the Szczecin Philharmonic, there will be a concert of Polish music performed by the musicians of the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
The artists will present, among others, the first of two early string quartets by Stanisław Moniuszko – Quartet in D minor, dedicated to Józef Elsner. The programme will also included a repertoire from the second half of the twentieth century. The five-part String Quartet No. 3 "Wycinanki" (Paper-cuts) by Andrzej Panufnik was written in 1990, when composer return to Poland after 36 years of emigration. Hence, in the title and formal structure a reference to Polish folklore – the symmetry of folk paper-cuts. Another composition for a string quartet is the Overture by Mikołaj Górecki from 2000, which is characterized by a lively theme and constant struggle between tonality and atonality. The programme also covers two trios by contemporary artists associated with Szczecin – Artur Cieślak and Tadeusz Mazurek. The evening will end with the Fantasy Trio, Op. 26 for clarinet, cello and piano by a Polish-American composer born in Chicago – Robert Muczyński.
