Katowice | 18th Silesian Days of Contemporary Music

Solaris

The premiere of Solaris / landscapes and paraphrases by Stanisław Bromboszcz  will take place on November 8, 2018 at the Katowice Academy of Fine Arts at 7.00 p.m. as part of the 18th Silesian Days of Contemporary Music.

The composition for electronics, video projection and stage movement is author's interpretation of fragments of one of the most famous novels by Stanisław Lem. The experience of an inhuman situation in which the heroes of the novel found themselves as a result of the incomprehensible operation of the surrounding ocean was translated into three complementary media: sound, motion and video projections.

The music emitted from the 12 speakers that surround the viewers creates the planet's environment (the eponymous landscapes), where the tragedy of the two heroes: Kelvin and Harea takes place. Their fate is echoed both in dance and in dynamic typography –  fragments of text cast directly on the walls. Cool electronic sounds collide with the bodies of dancers, as if warning that "every" guest "when he appears is almost a phantom ...".

The premiere of Stanisław Bromboszcz's work was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the "Composing Commissions" programme implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance. Admission to the event, organized by the Polish Composers' Union, is free.
