We regret to inform that on November 30, 2018, died Professor of the Catholic University in Lublin, prelate Jan Chwałek (88) – musicologist, organ master, member of the Lublin Branch of the Polish Composers' Union.
Jan Chwałek graduated from the Major Seminary in Sandomierz and the Department of Musicology at the Catholic University of Lublin. Since 1961, this outstanding expert in the field of organ lectured at the Catholic University of Lublin. In the years 1982-1985 he was the director of the Institute of Musicology, then the head of the Department of Instrumentology of that Institute (1984-2005). He was a full-time employee of the Krakow Division of the Monuments' Conservation Workshop, he built nine organ instruments. He was a member of the Polish Composers' Union (Section of Musicologists), the Scientific Society of the Catholic University of Lublin, the International Musicological Society, Gesellschaft der Orgelfreunde. He was awarded the Signum Universitatis medal and the Per Musicam ad fidem medal.
Funeral Mass and ceremony will take place on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 1.00 p.m. in the parish church in Wola Baranowska.
