Gdańsk | Reverbs. Poetry in music

Chor kameralnyPolish Chamber Choir under the baton of Jan Łukaszewski invites you to a concert "Reverbs. Poetry in music", which will take place on January 25, 2019 at 6.00 p.m. in the Artus Court in Gdańsk.

Poetry has always been in close relation to music. Composers of various eras eagerly reached for lyrical texts, combining verses of the most eminent writers with their music. During the concert, we will listen to the songs that have been composed within the last 150 years. They were all written for romantic poetry; even if Adam Asnyk does not belong to purely romantic artists, his poems clearly draw from the spirit of this era, and he is described by literary scholars as an epigone of romanticism.

The concert will start with Five Songs by Fryderyk Chopin, arranged for mixed choir by Andrzej Koszewski. The songs come from opus 74, which is a collection of 19 pieces originally composed for soprano and piano, written to words by Stefan Witwicki, Bohdan Zaleski and Wincenty Pol. Next we will listen to Ignacy Jan Paderewski who composed a total of 22 songs for voice and piano. The ones from opus 7 will be performed: Four songs to words by Adam Asnyk, dedicated to the poet, which were created in Berlin, Vienna and Warsaw from 1882 to 1885. The finale will be filled with a series of works titled Nachklänge (German "reverbs"), written by Heinrich Poos, regarded as one of the most outstanding contemporary German composers of choral music.
