Kraków | Filharmonic Hall celebrates Stanisław Moniuszko's 200th birth anniversary

FK

On the 200th birth anniversary of Stanisław Moniuszko, the Krakow Philharmonic prepared two jubilee choral concerts which will present works of this outstanding Polish composer. The first one will take place on May 5, 2019 at 3.00 p.m. as part of the "Choral Academy – Singing Poland" project, the second one will be held on May 15, 2019 at 7:30 p.m.

Stanisław Moniuszko wrote over 300 works, including numerous songs. These works have become the foundation of the repertoire of both concerts, as well as the main theme of this year' project of the "Choir Academy – Singing Poland", co-funded by the Ministry of Culture. The project includes workshops, competitions and concerts devoted to Moniuszko's works. The concert on May 5 will feature 11 children's choirs from Lesser Poland associated in the project. The programme includes the most popular songs by Moniuszko (Prządka, Złota rybka, Dziad i baba, Chochlik and Kum i kuma) as well as works by Witold Lutosławski, Jerzy Wasowski and others.

The choir concert, to be held on Wednesday, May 15, is organised by students and pedagogues of the Institute of Choir Conducting, Music Education and Rhythmics at the Academy of Music in Kraków. The faculty choir under the direction of student-conductors will perform songs by Stanisław Moniuszko arranged for choir by Franciszek Ryling. The concert will also feature the Boys' Philharmonic Choir and invited soloists: Jolanta Kowalska-Pawlikowska (soprano) and Sebastian Szumski (baritone).
