FS

On 24 August 2019 at 8:30 p.m., on the 100th anniversary of the end of the First Silesian Uprising, Silesian Museum will host a unique open-air concert to remember all those who stood up to fight for Upper Silesia, offering what they had the most precious – their lives.

Concert organizers – Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Silesian Philharmonic and Silesian Museum – want to promote the highest values: freedom, social and national community, understanding above all divisions. They honor the memory of those who were irrevocably "snatched out of life", leaving boundless sadness and regret in their relatives hearts.

The Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will perform with world-class soloist, Iwona Sobotka. The musicians will be led by an outstanding Polish artist – Krzysztof Penderecki. Maestro will perform a double role that day: as a conductor and composer. During the concert, we will listen to, among others his Chaconne, referred to as "music of lamentation without words." The programme will also include the most famous piece by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, patron of the Silesian Philharmonic: the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs op. 36.
