Łódź | Inauguration of the 2019/2020 season at the Łódź Philharmonic

Filharmonia Łódzka

The Artur Rubinstein Łódź Philharmonic will inaugurate 2019/2020 season with a performance of Krzysztof Penderecki's Credo on 21 September 2019 at 7 p.m. The concert will be dedicated to the memory of Maestro Zdzisław Szostak – conductor and composer strongly associated with the Philharmonic for many years, who passed away on 7 September.

In the years 1971–1987 Zdzisław Szostak was the deputy artistic director and conductor of the Łódź Philharmonic. He came to Łódź at the invitation of the then artistic director of the Łódź Philharmonic, Henryk Czyż, with whom he later collaborated. He made many recordings of film music with the Łódź philharmonic, both as a conductor and composer. He conducted over 200 film illustrations. In 2005 the Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir performed the world premiere of Zdzisław Szostak's greatest piece – Missa Latina. Thanks to the efforts of this institution, the Star of Zdzisław Szostak was embedded in the Avenue of Stars of the Road of Fame in Łódź on Piotrkowska Street. Maestro unveiled his star on 13 January 2018, on his 88th birthday. His death marks the end of an era in the history of the Łódź Philharmonic.

Credo for 5 soloists, boys' choir, mixed choir and orchestra by Krzysztof Penderecki will be performed by the Łódź Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and Choir together with the Children's Choir of the Stanisław Moniuszko Music School Complex in Łódź under the baton of Paweł Przytocki. The soloists will be soprano Iwona Hossa, Katarzyna Hołysz, mezzo-soprano Karolina Sikora, tenor Tomasz Warnijak and bass Liudas Mikalauskas.
