Warsaw | First Performance of Katarzyna Brochocka's "Psalms"

Brochocka

The world premiere of Katarzyna Brochocka's Psalms for bass voice and double bass will take place on 29 August 2020 at 8.30 p.m. in the Church of St. Dominic in Służew (2 Dominikańska Street). The work will be performed by Tomasz Raff (bass) & Karol Kowal (double bass).

Psalms for bass voice and double bass by Katarzyna Brochocka are intimate compositions with low, at times dark and deeply poignant sound. An ear used to receiving popular, easily assimilated melodies will probably experience shock and surprise in contact with the unknown world of these unusual sounds and original chords. However, for the persistent and attentive listeners, Psalms will open a completely new horizon of non-obvious beauty. Although demanding and mysterious, they are full of hope of the Creator's tenderness for Creation. This is the essence of the sacred work of the young Polish composer, who is convinced about the evangelical purpose of the profession of musician and the value of art in the life of every human being.

The project is implemented by the o.to.ja Foundation, which aims at building relationship between artists and the public and bringing music to listeners who have occasional contact with classical music. The premiere of the new piece will take place in Warsaw's spiritual center, perhaps the most vibrant with modern Christian art. The Church of St. Dominic in Służew is an extraordinary venue where the architecture of Władysław Pieńkowski, the interior of Stanisław Niemczyk, and the art of Jerzy Nowosielski and contemporary iconographers will be filled with the new sacred music of Katarzyna Brochocka.

The project is co-financed by the National Centre for Culture as part of the "Culture – Interventions 2020" programme and by the STOART Association of Performing Artists.
