Bydgoszcz | In Memory of the Ładoś Group

FPThe year 2021 was established by the resolution of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland as the Year of the Ładoś Group. The Ignacy Jan Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic will celebrate this occasion with a concert "In memory of the Ładoś Group" on 8 September at 7.00 p.m. The concert will be preceded by a lecture by Dr Danuta Drywa from the Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo on the activities of the Ładoś Group aimed at saving European Jews from extermination.

The group of Aleksander Ładoś, an MP of the Republic of Poland in Switzerland, composed of Polish diplomats, employees of the Polish Legation in Bern and representatives of Jewish organizations, saved European Jews from being transported to death camps during World War II by obtaining and forging "passports for life" (approx. 10,000) of South American countries.

At the September concert, the Capella Bydgostiensis Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Piotr Pławner will present Sinfonietta by Szymon Laks. During World War II, the composer was in the Auschwitz camp –  he was a member and then a conductor of the Auschwitz band – and later he was imprisoned in the Dachau camp. We will also hear pieces by Gustav Mahler, Edward Elgar, Jules Massenet and György Ligeti. The violinist Piotr Pławner will also perform as a soloist.
