Gdańsk | "Visions 4 Gdańsk" – O’Bows Quartet to Its City. Album Premiere

O'bowsThe O'Bows Quartet was founded in Gdańsk – hence the ensemble's idea to dedicate their first album to this city. The concert premiere of the album Visions 4 Gdańsk will take place on 4 November 2021 at 7.00 p.m. at the Concert Hall of the Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk as part of the "Gdańsk for Polish Music" festival.

The album includes four pieces commissioned from young Gdańsk composers, who were left with complete freedom in the choice of style and form of the piece. The only requirement was to be inspired by Gdańsk. Therefore, each composer remained faithful to their own compositional style, and at the same time expressed an artistic vision related to Gdańsk in an individual manner. The commissioned works were recorded for the first time.

The programme of the concert will include Beniamin Baczewski's Niezmierzone wody [Vast Waters], referring to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Poland's Wedding to the Sea, Maciej Zakrzewski's Nigdy więcej wojny [No more war], which the composer dedicated to Gdańsk as a symbol, an allegory of dreams about peace, freedom and independence, Anotni Wojnar's Ulica Mariacka [Mariacka Street], inspired by the famous street in Gdańsk, and Kamil Cieślik's Stellaeburgum [Constellation], which title refers to the name of the Jan Heweliusz astronomical observatory built in the attic of one of Gdańsk tenement houses.

The Honorary Patron of the album is the President of the City of Gdańsk. The Patron is the Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk.
