Rzeszów | 1st Stanisław Moniuszko International Competition of Polish Music

The Stanisław Moniuszko International Competition of Polish Music in Rzeszów will take place on 20-27 September 2019. It is a new cultural initiative which purpose is to promote Polish music around the world and make the listeners realise the quality and significance of the musical legacy of Stanisław Moniuszko and many other distinguished Polish composers from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The first edition of the Competition is intended for two categories of participants – pianists and chamber ensembles. The programme will include works mainly from the 19th and 20th century, selected from the works of 50 Polish composers.

Competition auditions will be held at the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów on 21-26 September 2019, and the winners' concert – on 27 September. The performers will be the Artur Malawski Philharmonic Orchestra  in Rzeszów under the direction of Jerzy Salwarowski and Tomasz Chmiel as well as the winners of the competition. The event will be repeated on 29 September at the National Philharmonic.

The competition is organized by the Institute of Music and Dance. The event is co-organized by the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów. The first edition of the Competition is held under the National Patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda in the 100th Anniversary of Independence.

Lublin | 6th International Wieniawski Brothers Festival

6th edition of the International Wieniawski Brothers Festival will be held at the Lublin Philharmonic on 21-27 September 2019.

The festival aims to present the musical heritage of the brothers: brilliant violinist Henryk and excellent pianist Józef Wieniawski – well-known virtuosos and composers of the 19th century. However, the programme also includes music by composers related to Lublin – the hometown of Wieniawski, Polish composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, and masterpieces of European music.

The festival will be inaugurated by an extraordinary recital by Corina Marti – Swiss harpsichordist, flute and early keyboard instruments teacher at the Scholi Cantorum Basiliensis. The artist will present works from the tablature of Jan of Lublin, one of the greatest musical monuments of the 16th-century Europe, on the new Philharmonic instrument – a copy of the wing harpsichord, made according to the museum patterns of the 18th-century creator Pascal Taskin.

On 24 September, Norwegian pianist Aksel Kolstad, called the "Quentin Tarantino of classical music", and Agnieszka Schulz-Brzyska, lecturer at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, will present works by Józef Wieniawski, Władysław Żeleński, Fryderyk Chopin, Stanisław Moniuszko, Sergiusz Rachmaninow, Claude Debussy, and Aksel Kolstad.

The festival will culminate in an extraordinary symphony concert under the baton of Wojciech Rodek together with Georgius Osokin – winner of the 9th International Chopin Piano Competition in Moscow (2014), finalist of the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin  Piano Competition (2015). The artists will present symphonic works by Antonin Dvořák and Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21 by Fryderyk Chopin.

Łódź | Inauguration of the 2019/2020 season at the Łódź Philharmonic

The Artur Rubinstein Łódź Philharmonic will inaugurate 2019/2020 season with a performance of Krzysztof Penderecki's Credo on 21 September 2019 at 7 p.m. The concert will be dedicated to the memory of Maestro Zdzisław Szostak – conductor and composer strongly associated with the Philharmonic for many years, who passed away on 7 September.

In the years 1971–1987 Zdzisław Szostak was the deputy artistic director and conductor of the Łódź Philharmonic. He came to Łódź at the invitation of the then artistic director of the Łódź Philharmonic, Henryk Czyż, with whom he later collaborated. He made many recordings of film music with the Łódź philharmonic, both as a conductor and composer. He conducted over 200 film illustrations. In 2005 the Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir performed the world premiere of Zdzisław Szostak's greatest piece – Missa Latina. Thanks to the efforts of this institution, the Star of Zdzisław Szostak was embedded in the Avenue of Stars of the Road of Fame in Łódź on Piotrkowska Street. Maestro unveiled his star on 13 January 2018, on his 88th birthday. His death marks the end of an era in the history of the Łódź Philharmonic.

Credo for 5 soloists, boys' choir, mixed choir and orchestra by Krzysztof Penderecki will be performed by the Łódź Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and Choir together with the Children's Choir of the Stanisław Moniuszko Music School Complex in Łódź under the baton of Paweł Przytocki. The soloists will be soprano Iwona Hossa, Katarzyna Hołysz, mezzo-soprano Karolina Sikora, tenor Tomasz Warnijak and bass Liudas Mikalauskas.

Elbląg | Inauguration of the 13th season of the Elbląg Chamber Orchestra

The Elbląg Chamber Orchestra inaugurates its 13th artistic season with a concert on 22 September 2019 at 6 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the State Music School Complex in Elbląg.

The musicians under the direction of two conductors: Sabrina Stachel and Piotr Jędrzejczyk, will present music composed by Mieczysław Karłowicz, Andrzej Panufnik and Ludwig van Beethoven. The concert will be joined by cellist Maciej Kułakowski, a soloist and chamber musician who won the first prize and a special prize at the 10th Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition.

Tarnowskie Góry | Harpsichord as a social instrument

Elżbieta Chojnacka Centre for Contemporary Harpsichord Music invites you to the concert "Harpsichord as a social instrument", which will take place on 22 September 2019 at 6 p.m. in the Palace in Rybna as part of the "Two streams" series.

Concert life is travel, rehearsals, meetings, mutual inspirations, motivations, shared passion. Artistic element. The concert programme will consist of works from these journeys, a fusion of cultures and various types of music: French, German, Australian, Spanish, Argentine, African and Polish, among others Six folk melodies for harpsichord and guitar by Marek Pasieczny. We will also listen to musical portrait of the harpsichordist Hanna Balcerzak by Philip Czapłowski and the premiere of Hommage a Elizabeth pour clavecin, Op. 68 (2018) by Tomasz Kamieniak, composed at the turn of May and June 2018, on the first death anniversary of Elżbieta Chojnacka (on 10 September this year the artist would celebrate her 80th birthday).

The harpsichord will be accompanied by the sounds of guitar, accordion and drums. Exceptional artists were invited to participate in the concert: harpsichordists Magdalena Bąk, Aleksandra Gajecka-Antosiewicz and Hanna Balcerzak, drummer Arkadiusz Kuc, accordionist Leszek Kołodziejski and Due Corde ensemble.

38th International Festival "Chopin in the Colors of Autumn"

The 38th International Festival 'Chopin in the Colors of Autumn' will take place in Ostrów Wielkopolski and Antonin between 19 and 22 September 2019.

The inauguration concert will take place at the Ostrów Cultural Center, featuring the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Łukasz Borowicz. The 200th anniversary of the birth of Stanisław Moniuszko will be honored with the performance of Mazur from the opera Halka. The programme will also include Łukasz Krupiński's rendition of Piano Concerto in A minor by Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Ingolf Wunder's rendition of Frederic Chopin's Concerto in E minor, Op. 11 and Allegro de concert in A major, Op. 46 arrangeed for piano and symphony orchestra.

During the next three festival days at the Hunting Palace of the Radziwiłł Princes in Antonin we will have a chance to listen to, among others, songs by Chopin, Perkowski, Karłowicz, Malawski, Moniuszko, Niewiadomski and Szymanowski performed by soprano Edyta Piasecka and pianist Bartłomiej Kominek. There will be a late evening concert with jazz music performed by Włodzimierz Nahorny Trio, who will present compositions inspired by the music of Chopin, Paderewski, Szymanowski and Komeda. The final concert will feature world renowned pianist Anna Malikova, graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, winner of the XII International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.

Zielona Góra | Inauguration of the 2019/2020 season

The inauguration concert of the 2019/2020 season of the Tadeusz Baird Zielona Góra Philharmonic will take place on 20 September 2019 at 7 p.m., featuring works by Franz Liszt, Sergey Rachmaninov and Mieczysław Weinberg.

In 2019, 100 years have passed since the birth of Mieczysław Weinberg – Polish composer whose music remained little known for many years. Today, his works are admiried in the musical world. While remaining in the neo-romantic aesthetics, he created his own characteristic musical language. Polish melodies, Op. 47 No. 2 for rochestra were composed in 1950 as an expression of longing for the homeland, which the composer left in 1939. They are written in a simple, folcloric style, with references to such dances as oberek, krakowiak, kujawiak, and polonaise. At the outbreak od WWII Weinberg moved to Minsk to continue his musical studies started in Poland, and since 1943 he lived in Moscow. The greatest popularity brought him the score written for the film The Cranes are Flying, awarded the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival in 1958.

During the inaugural concert, we will also listen to Franz Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major and Sergei Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances, Op. 45. The Symphony Orchestra of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic will be conducted by Czesław Grabowski. Pianist Karol Radziwonowicz will perform as a soloist.

On 20 September 2019 at 7 p.m., the Lower Silesian Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra invites you to a concert of proMODERN sextet.

The proMODERN vocal sextet specializes in contemporary music performance, and the ensemble's concerts are distinguished by passion, perfection and creativity. proMODERN has won four 'Fryderyk' awards of the Phonographic Academy: in 2015 in the categories 'The best recording of Polish music' and 'Album of the year: choral, oratorio and opera music' for their debut album Where are you. Pieces from Warsaw, and in 2018 in the categories 'Album of the year: contemporary music' and again 'The best recording of Polish music' for the second album – proMODERN shakespired. In 2018, the sextet was nominated for the Coryphaeus of Polish Music Award in the category 'Discovery of the Year' for the performance of Stimmung by Karlheinz Stockhausen at he KODY festival in Lublin.

During the concert in Jelenia Góra, the ensemble will perform works by Polish composers of the 20th and 21st centuries: Krzysztof Penderecki, Rafał Ryterski, Piotr Tabakiernik, Jagoda Szmytka, Aleksander Kościów and Witold Lutosławski.

Zabrze | 7th Krzysztof Penderecki International Festival – Level 320

Wold-class artists – Cameron Carpenter, Rafael Payare, Jerzy Stuhr – will take part in the 7th Krzysztof Penderecki International Festival – level 320 in Zabrze on September 14-19, 2019.

The Festival will be inaugurated by Maestro Penderecki himself. He will conduct his Adagio from the Symphony No.3 for string orchestra and Mazur from Moniuszko's opera The Haunted Manor, in the year of the celebrations of the composer's 200th birth anniversary. Rafael Payare, director of the famous San Diego Symphony Orchestra, together with Sinfonietta Cracovia – who celebrates 25th anniversary this year – will interpret Penderecki's Symphony No. 4 'Adagio'  and Schuman's Symphony No. 4.

The concert on 15 September will feature Cameron Carpenter, whom the American press described as "one of the rare musicians who changes the game of his instrument". The artist will present his renditions of Bach, Poulenc and Penderecki, playing on specially constructed organs that he will bring to Zabrze. The Festival will end on 19 September with a famous interpretation of The double bass play by Patrick Süskind, directed and acted by Jerzy Stuhr. All events will take place 320 meters underground in the Guido Mine.
