World-class tenor Jonas Kaufmann returns to Met in the western work of Giacom Puccini. Sheriff, bandit, gold, poker, horses and great love are the themes of La Fanciulla del West, which the New York scene will be broadcast live to theaters around the world on October 27, 2018. In Warsaw's Kino Praha, the broadcast will take place at 6:35 p.m.

Soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek sings Puccini’s gun-slinging heroine in this romantic epic of the Wild West, with the heralded return of tenor Jonas Kaufmann in the role of the outlaw she loves. Tenor Yusif Eyvazov also sings some performances. Baritone Željko Lučić is the vigilante sheriff Jack Rance, and Marco Armiliato conducts..

The opera unfolds in the mountains of California during the Gold Rush in 1849–50. The anachronistic presence of a Pony Express rider and a Wells Fargo agent would indicate a date after 1860, but historical accuracy is not the goal in this tale. Puccini was enchanted with Belasco’s fictional setting, with its combination of mythic and grittily realistic elements.

With his international stature assured, Puccini explored new musical horizons in Fanciulla: There are few arias (the tenor’s Act III “Ch’ella mi creda” being a standout exception), and most of the music relies on changes of tone and color instead of set pieces. The orchestral sweep, appropriate to the dramatic landscape of the California mountains, is apparent in the first bars of the brief, explosive prelude. As in Tosca and Madama Butterfly, local musical elements are depicted for color, albeit sparingly. The score is marked by a preponderance of male voices, reflecting the title heroine’s isolation in an almost all-male world.

On October 27, 2018 at 7.00 p.m., the Church of the Holy Cross in Warsaw will host the world premiere of Lightflight for violin and organs by a talented young composer Nikolet Burzyńska. The concert will take place as part of the "Musica Sacra" series.

Nikolet Burzyńska is a laureate of numerous international awards. Her works are performed by significant Polish and European orchestras, as well as world-famous soloists, like the American violinist Hilary Hahn. Her latest work was written as part of the "Composing Commissions" programme, operated by the Institute of Music and Dance.

"Light and flight, flight to light, light-bulb, light flight ... the title of the piece is very ambiguous. The composition was initiated by the exceptional violinist Jolanta Sosnowska and written for her. I was captivated by her agility and the airiness of the game, as well as the deep emotionality and naturalness of phrasing." – says the composer. 

The work will be premiered by Jolanta Sosnowska, a Warsaw resident living in Vienna, the winner of international competitions specializing in discovering and creating new music from the baroque to the present, and an excellent Hungarian organist, partner of the Vienna Philharmonics, winner of the first prizes in organ improvisation competitions – Robert Kovács.The artists will also present works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Eugène Ysaÿe, Komitas Vardapeda and Nicola Matteis as well as organ improvisations. The concert will be hosted by Magdalena Łoś-Komarnicka.

A recital by percussionist Damian Oleksiak will take place on October 26, 2018 at 7:30 at the headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.

Damian Oleksiak, a doctoral student of Professor Krzysztof Jaguszewski at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, will present compositions by Jose Manuel Lopez, Iannis Xenakis, Dolf de Kinkelder, Emmanuel Sejourne, as well as Arista Death Omen by Marcin Błażewicz and Constructions for vibraphone by Bogusław Scheffer.

Filharmonia Narodowa ogłasza przesłuchania do Chóru, do grupy tenorów. Termin nadsyłania zgłoszeń – 4 listopada, zaś termin przesłuchań – 15 listopada 2018 roku.

Etap I będzie miał miejsce w Sali koncertowej FN. Należy wykonać dwa dowolne zróżnicowane utwory solowe. Mile widziane zróżnicowanie dotyczące czasu powstania (epoka), charakteru utworu, jego tempa i języka, w którym został napisany tekst.

Etap II odbędzie się w Sali prób Chóru FN. Obowiązkowy program jest następujący:

1. Maurice Duruflé, Requiem - Kyrie (w kwartecie);

2. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Requiem - Kyrie (w kwartecie);

3. Czytanie partii a vista;

4. Wykonanie fragmentu zadanej partii po krótkim przygotowaniu.

Zgłoszenia przyjmowane będą w formie elektronicznej. On November 7, 2018 at 7.00 p.m., the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music will host a chamber concert as part of the 5th Ignacy Jan Paderewski International Festival, featuring outstanding soloists: violinist Janusz Wawrowski and pianist Mischa Kozłowski.

The programme of the November concert refers to the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. We will hear chamber works for violin and piano by Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Henryk Wieniawski. The first part will include Paderewski's Minuet, Op. 14 No. 1 (arr. Fritz Kreisler), Melody, Op. 16 No. 2 (arr. Stanisław Barcewicz), and Sonata in A Minor. In the second part of the evening, we will hear Wieniawski's Kujawiak in A minor, Legend in G minor, Op. 17, and Polonaise de Concert in D major, Op. 4 No. 1.

The Wednesday concert at Okólnik also belengs to the "Our graduates" series. Both performers are graduates of the Warsaw University of Music. Janusz Wawrowski studied in the class of prof. Mirosław Ławrynowicz, receiving a diploma with honors in 2004. Mischa Kozłowski studied in the piano class of prof. Piotr Paleczny and in 2013 he received a diploma with honors.
