On April 20, 2018 at 6.30 p.m., the Warsaw Philharmonic will held a concert commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising "Saved from Oblivion". It will be an opportunity to hear Symphony No. 21 "Kaddish", Op. 152 by Mieczysław Weinberg, dedicated to the Warsaw Ghetto's Holocaust victims.

Mieczysław Weinberg spent the first twenty years of his life in Warsaw, before escaping to the USSR when the war broke out. His family remained in Poland and perished in the Shoah. The kindness that Dmitri Shostakovich showed the young pianist and composer allowed the latter to live and create. However, Weinberg gained fame only after his death, when the world began to slowly discover an oeuvre comprising 22 symphonies, 17 string quartets, 7 operas, as well as concertos, cantatas and others. Weinberg completed his Symphony No. 21, Op. 152 in 1991, and dedicated it to the victims of the Warsaw Ghetto. As it was his own musical prayer for the dead, he called it Kaddish. The piece is written for a grand orchestra and soprano. That latter part, which appears in the final section of the piece, is a very expressive vocalise.

A Survivor from Warsaw is a short piece in which the text is recited by the narrator against the sound of the orchestra and the final prayer sung by a male voice choir. The story describes a scene during the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto by the Nazi Germans (1943), recounted here by one of the victims who miraculously survived. Arnold Schönberg – the leading composer of Modernism – wrote the work in 1947 in the United States, to where he had fled from European antisemitism fourteen years earlier. A Survivor from Warsaw was his tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.

Adagio is the first and only completed movement of Symphony No. 10 by Gustav Mahler. The other four movements have survived in the form of sketches and notes, published in facsimile in 1924. Since then, attempts have been made to “finish” Mahler’s work. The proposition which has gained most recognition was that of the English musicologist Deryck Cooke, first presented in the 1960s and most often performed today. However, such attempts have had serious opponents from the very start, as – regardless of the outcome – they would always remain “fakes”. The orphaned Adagio is a deeply emotional musical statement as an individual piece. The highly subjective nature of the music makes it sound like a personal confession. Adagio seems to be an unfinished story of two dramatically intertwined fates, presented at the very beginning as two musical themes.

The programme will be performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir under the baton of Jacek Kaspszyk, along with Simon Callow – reciting voice, Magdalena Molendowska – soprano.

The Polish Radio Orchestra under the baton of Michał Klauza will perform works of Andrzej Panufnik and Mieczysław Wajnberg on 20th April 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at the Katowice headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.

The programme will include: Heroic Overture by Andrzej Panufnik, The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Polish Melodies Suite Op. 47, No. 2 by Mieczysław Wajnberg, and suite from the movie Five Days – Five Nights op. 111a by Dmitri Shostakovich.

19 kwietnia 2018 roku na antenę TVP Kultura powraca pasmo koncertowe „Scena klasyczna”, prezentujące najciekawszych młodych muzyków klasycznych, laureatów prestiżowych konkursów w kraju i za granicą. Pierwszym gościem będzie flecistka Marta Chlebicka, laureatka konkursu Młody Muzyk Roku 2018.

W programie wystąpią zarówno uznani muzycy, jak i stawiający pierwsze kroki w samodzielnej karierze utalentowani polscy wykonawcy. Mini recitalowi towarzyszy krótka rozmowa o najnowszej płycie, trasie koncertowej, kompozycji prezentowanej w programie czy zdobytym niedawno wyróżnieniu. „Scenę klasyczną” prowadzi Barbara Schabowska, dyrektor TVP Kultura.

19 kwietnia o godz. 00:05 wystąpi 17-letnia flecistka Marta Chlebicka – zwyciężczyni organizowanego przez TVP Kultura, Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego oraz Instytut Muzyki i Tańca konkursu „Młody Muzyk Roku” 2018, laureatka kilkudziesięciu konkursów ogólnopolskich i międzynarodowych w kraju i za granicą. W programie zagra dwa utwory: Sonatę na flet i fortepian Francisa Poulenca oraz Fantazję „Rigoletto” op. 335 Wilhelma Poppa. Marcie Chlebickiej będzie akompaniować na fortepianie Hanna Sosińska-Kraski.

26 kwietnia o godz. 22:55 widzowie poznają klarnecistę Andrzeja Cieplińskiego, zdobywcę m.in. prestiżowego tytułu New Talent of The Year 2015 na Międzynarodowym Forum Młodych Wykonawców w Bratysławie, na którym reprezentował Polskie Radio. 10 maja o godz. 21:50 wystąpi duet perkusyjny Pękala/Kordylasińska/Pękala. Tworzą go wibrafonista i perkusjonista Miłosz Pękala oraz grająca na marimbie Magdalena Kordylasińska-Pękala. Szczególnie bliski jest im nurt minimal music oraz szeroko rozumiana muzyka elektroakustyczna. Wraz z pianistami Lutosławski Piano Duo tworzą zespół Kwadrofonik, formację która specjalizuje się w wykonawstwie muzyki XX i XXI wieku. Wykonają m. in. L’Angelique Witolda Lutosławskiego oraz autorski Modular #2 Miłosza Pękali.

W kolejnych odcinkach wystąpią m.in. Trio im. Wiłkomirskich, Polish Cello Quartet oraz gitarzysta Piotr Przedbora.

Songs by Agnieszka Osiecka and Mrozu performed by the Mundus Cantat Choir, performances by choirs from Norway, Ukraine and Great Britain – this musical feast awaits the Tri-City audience as part of Gdańsk Concerts Accompanying the 14th edition of the International Choir Festival "Mundus Cantat " 2018.

A series of Gdańsk Accompanying Concerts, which are part of the International Choir Festival "Mundus Cantat" 2018, will start on April 21, 2018. The Mundus Cantat Festival Choir invites you to the Osiedlowy Dom Kultury (Cultural Center) at 5.00 p.m. for the concert titled "Osiecka for choir and other hits of popular music". The repertoire of the ensemble will include the most popular songs by Agnieszka Osiecka and contemporary hits known from the radio, such as We have nothing to lose by Mrozu and Sound'n'Grace, or Starboy by The Weekend.

If someone will not be able to attend this concert, another chance to hear Mundus Cantat in a similar repertoire will apear on April 28 at the Old Town Hall (7.00 p.m.), where they will perform together with the Kor Som Helst choir from Kristiansand (Norway). Our guests from far-away Norway will present folk songs from the far North as well as jazz ballads. During the concert, donations will be collected on behalf of the Foundation for Magdalena Piorunek. She has been struggling with a serious illness since her birth – Progressive Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA type 1 Werdnig-Hoffmann).

On July 14 at 7.00 pm in the Oliwa City Hall of Culture you will be able to hear the performance of the Choir of the School for Girls from Bruton (Great Britain). The program of the concert will include religious and classical music. GKT will end the concert of Colombian tenor Juan Felipe Alvarado, who will perform on September 21 in the "Piastuś" Community Center of Culture and present a Latin American boleros about people, their temperament and feelings.

The project also includes choral workshops: "Choir – musical activation through social reintegration" and "You can take the floor", addressed to young people gathered at the OHP Youth Education Center in Gdańsk. Workshop participants – young people requiring special attention – learn about the correct voice emission, take part in vocal activities, and even work on the repertoire that will be performed during the important ceremony of the institution.

The organizers of Gdańsk Accompanying Concerts are the City of Gdańsk and the Mundus Cantat Foundation and the co-organizers are the Baltic Sea Cultural Center and the Gdańsk Community. The project was co-financed by the city of Gdańsk. Admission to all concerts is free.

20 kwietnia 2018 roku o godz. 19:00 w Filharmonii Lubelskiej będzie miało miejsce prawykonanie Koncertu fortepianowego „Rzecz o Jasnowidzącym z Lublina” Mikołaja Hertla.

Mikołaj Hertel jest kompozytorem i wykonawcą muzyki elektronicznej. Ukończył Państwową Wyższą Szkołę Muzyczną w Warszawie. Tworzy muzykę dla radia, dla polskiej wytwórni Paris Music, publikującej tzw. production music. W tym koncercie melomani będą mieli możliwość usłyszeć Koncert fortepianowy „Rzecz o Jasnowidzącym z Lublina”, w którym partię fortepianu zagra Przemysław Witek, a będzie to światowe prawykonanie utworu.

Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Lubelskiej pod batutą Przemysława Fiugajskiego zaprezentuje również Holzwege Tomasza Sikorskiego. Kompozytor w jednym z wywiadów powiedział o nim: „Mnie zafascynowało samo słówko, ponieważ opowiadał mi o tym znajomy, który czytał ten esej Heideggera – ja na tyle nawet nie znam niemieckiego. Holzwege to są te takie ślady drzew transportowanych w lesie, które drzewa zostawiają gdzieś tam, czy to na śniegu czy wśród liści (…) i on [Heidegger] życie określa jako takie błąkanie się i tylko momenty iluminacji, kiedy człowiek znajduje się na polanie, które nazywa der Lichtungstehend. Mój utwór to jest ostinato, to jest długie jakieś oczekiwanie, które kończy się takim zawieszeniem, tak kończy się błagając po prostu o jakąś kontynuację, i kończy się pauzą”.

Ponadto podczas koncertu zabrzmią Fantazja na tematy z opery Faust op. 20 Henryka Wieniawskiego, w której partię solową wykona skrzypaczka Anna Wandtke, oraz muzyka baletowa z opery Faust Charlesa Gounoda.
