Maria Szymanowska Society invites to the recital of the pianist Carole Carniel "Les talents au féminin Hommage à Elżbieta Zapolska" in memory of the singer Elżbieta Zapolska, the founder of the Society, which will take place on 25 November 2021 at 6.30 p.m. at the Bibliothèque Polonaise de Paris. The partner of the concert is the Polish Institute in Paris.

Elżbieta Zapolska-Chapelle (1954–2020) was among the founders of the Association of Polish Artists-Musicians in France in 1991, she was a member of the Historical and Literary Society in Paris. She was a President of the Maria Szymanowska Society founded in Paris in 2010 on her initiative, author of the project "Maria Szymanowska (1789-1831), a Woman of Europe". In 2011, she released the world's first recording on CD (Acte Préalable) of Maria Szymanowska's Ballades and Romanses, together with Bart van Oort, who played Broadwood's pianoforte from 1825. In 2019, the duo released their next album, Romance a Josephine. Women's Songs in Maria Szymanowska's Time, which included, among others, works by Maria Szymanowska , Kazimiera Wołowska, Sophie Gail and Fanny Hensel.

The November concert will include pieces by Maria Szymanowska, as well as Marianne de Martines, Fanny Hensel and Clara Schumann.

The concert will also feature a presentation of the first issue of the scientific journal "Cahiers Maria Szymanowska" , which is now available on the Numilog (https://www.numilog.com), Amazon, Apple iBooks and Kobo-Fnac platforms in a digital version, and in bookstores.

The Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie under the direction of Marek Janowski will premiere a piece by the Polish composer Jacek Domagała on 19 September 2021 at 7.30 p.m. at the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal.

Jacek Domagała wrote his Variationen über das Thema des 1. "Satzes des Streichquartetts" op. 131 von Ludwig van Beethoven (Variations on a Theme from the 1st Movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 131) for piano and string orchestra in 2019. The piece won the first prize at the "Beethoven - Zurück in die Zukunft" 2019 competition organised by the Verband deutscher Musikschulen (VdM). The planned concert performance of the work was postponed due to the pandemic.

The work will be premiered in Germany by the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie youth string orchestra conducted by Marek Janowski with the pianist Lorenzo Soulès. The programme of the concert will also include: Lento assai e cantante tranquillo, Op. 135 by Ludwig van Beethoven, Konzert for Marimbaphon and Streichorchester No. 1 by Ney Rosauro and Serenade for string orchestra in E major, Op. 22 by Antonin Dvořák.

Hashtag Ensemble will present participatory works by Rafał Zapała as part of his Fulbright residency at CNMAT, UC Berkeley: on 17 November 2021 at 8.00 p.m. at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies at the University of California (Berkeley) and on 19 November 2021 at 7.30 p.m. at the Stanford University Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics.

The concerts will focus on artistic theory surrounding new open forms of music intermediated by technological tools. These forms are explored in the context of written scores and live chamber music performance. The programme includes four participatory works involving the listeners, sometimes through physical interaction, sometimes with mobile consoles prepared for the pieces: Judge Me Again (2020, version for flute and l.elx), Futility (2020), Scrolling to Zero (2018, version for synthesizers). The concert will also feature a new work titled Introverts’ Collective which was created during Rafał Zapała's residency.

The events are co-financed by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

The concerts are free and open for in-person attendance. They will be live streamed and made available on YouTube channels of both institutes.
