Meccore String Quartet 'Penderecki' - release of the record

The latest release of the Meccore String Quartet is devoted to the chamber music of Krzysztof Penderecki. The album is released on the 90th anniversary of the composer's birth, under the banner of the Austrian label Capriccio (C 5493). From the 5th of May, 2023, it is available on streaming services.

It is a record of his most outstanding works for quartet, trio and string ensemble with the accompaniment of the clarinet, the part of which is played by Jan Jakub Bokun. The album includes works such as String Quartets No. 1, 2, 4, Clarinet Quartet, Der unterbrochene Gedanke and String Trio.

Appointment of the director of the National Institute of Music and Dance

Minister of Culture and National Heritage Prof. Piotr Gliński appointed Paula Lis-Sołoducha - a French horn player and cultural manager - as the director of the National Institute of Music and Dance. The seven-year term began on the 1st of May, 2023.

Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa awarded The Order of the White Eagle

On the 3rd of May, 2023, at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, eminent Poles received the highest state decorations from the President of the Republic of Poland.

The Order of the White Eagle was awarded to the composer Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the glory and benefit of the Republic of Poland.

The Polish Composers' Union and the Polish Music Information Center POLMIC invite you on the 16th of May, 2023 at 6.00 p.m. to the presentation of the internet portal www.mycielski.polmic.pl, dedicated to the composer and writer Zygmunt Mycielski (1907–1987). The event will take place as part of the 37th Warsaw Music Meetings festival in the Concert Hall of the Polish Music Edition in Warsaw. Free entrance!

This is another of the portals dedicated to selected composers and musicologists, implemented by the Polish Composers' Union and made available on the polmic.pl website. On the portal you can find texts, photographs and recordings related to Mycielski and his compositions and writing. The website is also available in English.

During the meeting, the creators of the portal: Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska, Barbara Mielcarek-Krzyżanowska and Marek Zagańczyk will present the content of the portal, discuss selected texts by Mycielski, recordings of his music and fragments of radio broadcasts dedicated to him.

Annual Awards of the Polish Composers' Union presented!

On the 8th of May, 2023, the jury composed of: Teresa Malecka (chairman), Marcel Chyrzyński, Jerzy Kornowicz, Mieczysław Kominek and Stanisław Krupowicz, awarded the Annual Awards of the Polish Composers' Union for 2023.

The award winners are:

Marek Chołoniewski - for expressive compositional creativity with a hint of madness and persistent activity in promoting Polish electroacoustic music in Poland and abroad.

Jerzy Stankiewicz - for research on life and work of Olivier Messiaen, for bringing the work of Konstanty and Konstanty Kazimierz Regamey back to life, and for persistent efforts to strengthen Polish-Ukrainian music relations.

The awards ceremony is planned for September this year during the 66th Warsaw Autumn Festival.

Renewable Music: Open Call for Composers!

Renewable call 23 Polish Composers’ Union in partnership with Berg Orchestra, Waves Bratislava and UMZE Association invite composers from the Visegrad Group countries to collaborate on the ‘Renewable Music. V4 Composers for sustainability’ project. Deadline for submissions is 15 June 2023.

The call is open to composers up to 35 years of age representing the Visegrad Group countries (citizens of Poland, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary, living in the country and abroad).

The new works for chamber music ensemble of 7 up to 10 instruments (to be chosen from ‘Fl Ob Cl Bn / Cor Tpt Tbn / Perc/ Vn Vla Vc Cb / Elec’) will be commissioned from selected composers. Expected length of approximately 15-20 minutes, scores and parts of composition to be submitted by 31 March 2024.

The composers will be invited to take part in a series of workshops with music and ecology experts, they will visit concert sites in all partner countries and meet with local ensembles’ representatives. The new works will premiere in summer 2024.

Commission fee: 4000,00 EUR

Białowieża, Ciechanowiec, Siemiatycze | 'With classics through Poland': Urszula Kryger, Łukasz Kuropaczewski

World-famous artists - Urszula Kryger and Łukasz Kuropaczewski – as part of the National Institute of Music and Dance programme ‘With classics through Poland’, will perform for the first time at the Białowieża Cultural Center (May 4, 2023 at 6.00 pm), at the Agricultural Museum of Krzysztof Kluk in Ciechanowiec (May 5 at 14.00) and in the former synagogue in Siemiatycze (May 6 at 19.00).

During the upcoming concerts in eastern Poland, the professors will present Aleksander Tansman's Suite in Modo Polonico and works by Isaac Albéniz, Joaquín Rodrigo, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Manuel de Falla.

Upright piano of Joanna Bruzdowicz-Tittel handed over to Radziejowice

PianinoBruzdowiczThe historic piano, which was owned by the composer Joanna Bruzdowicz-Tittel, a great promoter of Polish culture, was donated by her heirs to the House of Creative Work in Radziejowice.

From the sunny south of France, an instrument from the Warsaw piano factory Jan Kerntopf i Syn, signed in 1901, came to a Polish cultural institution. The handover of the instrument took place with the participation of the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lyon, Hubert Czerniak.

Stokholm | 'Songs from Heaven' - charity concert for Ukraine

NOSPR 1.5.23As part of the ‘Institutions of the future - cooperation between NOSPR and Konserthuset Stockholm’ on the 1st of May, 2023 at 19.00 in this well-known concert hall, young virtuosos, participants of the NOSPR Academy and the Academy of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Stockholm will perform at another joint concert music by two Polish composers: Henryk Górecki and Andrzej Panufnik, combined with the famous Fourth Symphony by Gustav Mahler in a chamber version and a piece by Swedish Andrea Tarrodi based on Ukrainian and Swedish folk melodies.

Talented artists meet for the third time in less than a year as part of the "Institutions of the Future 2023" project co-financed by the 'Inspiring Culture' programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

This time it is a charity concert for Ukraine conducted by a Polish conductor - Vincent Kozlovsky. The soloists will be the Polish pianist Tymoteusz Bies, the Swedish-Ukrainian pianist Natalia Pasiecznik and the Polish-Ukrainian soprano Olga Pasiecznik. The concert is part of the European Festival 'Ukrainian Spring', organized by the network of European National Cultural Institutes of the European Union (EUNIC), of which the Polish Institute in Stockholm is a member, in cooperation with the European Commission.
