Sanok | Seventeenth International Piano Forum 'Bieszczady without Borders'

The International Piano Forum ‘Bieszczady without Borders’ will be held between the 5th and 14th of January 2022 in Sanok. Most of the events will be broadcasted online by TVP3 Rzeszów, TVP Kultura, Polskie Radio Rzeszów, Polskie Radio program II and Radio Dla Ciebie.

Almost twenty fine Yamaha instruments will take part in the Forum. Laureats will be awarded scholarships, ‘Złote Parnasy2022’ awards and awards funded by the Polish Composers’ Union.

During the concerts of the Forum the audience will be able to hear Książek Piano Duo, Eva Gevorgyan, ensemble Still Life: Joao Silva & Margherita Abita, Nataliia Trull. The Chamber Orchestra of the National Philharmonic and the Lviv Chamber Orchestra ‘Academia’ together with Russian pianist Mikhail Voskresensky will perform on the 10th and 11th of February respectively.

Concerts on the 5th, 6th, 10th and 11th of February will be broadcasted online on Facebook and Youtube.

Opole | Play the glass

Programme of the 4th February concert at 7 p.m. in Opole Philharmonic will be diverse and colourful. World renowned Wiener Glasharmonika Duo together with soprano Joanna Moskowicz, Opole Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Adam Banaszak will perform this evening.

The programme of the concert focuses on Polish music: works of Fryderyk Chopin, Stanisław Moniuszko and Krzysztof Penderecki arranged for glass instruments: harmonica and verrophone will be performed at the concert.

Christa and Gerald Schönfeldinger for thirty years have been playing the glass. They perform works written for glass instruments as well as contemporary music and arrangements of popular works.

Katowice | Silesian Philharmonic: Stefan Kisielewski, Konstantin Boyarsky and Dmitri Shostakovich

On the 4th of February 2022 at 7 p.m. the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra lead by Hobart Earl will perform works of Dmitri Shostakovich, Stefan Kisielewski and Konstantin Boyarsky who himself will perform the solo viola part.

Stefan Kisielewski’s „Mała uwertura” (‘Small ouverture’) for symphonic orchestra will open the concert. Next piece, Konstantin Boyarsky’s Concerto for Viola will be performed by the composer himself, one of the leaders of the viola section of the Royal Opera House in London.

The fourth movements emotional Fifth Symphony of Dmitri Shostakovich will fill out the second half of the concert. Hobart Earl will conduct the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.

Polish Music Edition will be the patron of the concert as part of the TUTTI.pl project promoting performance of Polish music.

Olsztyn | Master piano recitals: 'In a Romantic Mood'

Programme of the piano recital ‘In a Romantic Mood’ performed by Ignacy Lisiecki on the 4th of February 2022 at 7 p.m. will be a journey through different epochs and styles. As the final part of the concert we are going to hear the 1st Polish performance of Marcel Chyrzyński's 'Reflection No. 8'.

Chyrzyński is a composer and pedagogue, pupil of Krzysztof Penderecki, tutor at the Academy of Music in Kraków. He has been following up on his ‘Reflections’ cycle using various solo and chamber setups.

World premiere of the piece took place in 2021 in Yokohama. Ignacy Lisiecki is known for promoting the Polish music in the country of the cherry blossom. Works by Frederic Chopin, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Serge Prokofiev are to be performed in the recital.

Polish accents at ECLAT Festival Neue Musik in Stuttgart

ECLAT Festival Neue Musik in Stuttgart is one of the most important events presenting new music. This year’s edition will take place between the 1st and 6th of February 2022 and focuses on Belarus, social distance and digital means of communication. The programme of the Festival contains among others works of Polish composers: Anna Sowa, Agata Zubel and Mikołaj Laskowski.

The Festival will be held traditionally in Theaterhaus in Stuttgart as well as online. The performances will be broadcasted live and available on request for a couple of weeks more.

Ensemble Musikfabrik will perform Mikołaj Laskowski’s 5 Things That Really Matter (2018) at the concert on the 3rd of January at 8 p.m. On the 6th of January at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. 3 Songs for a singer accompanying herself of Agata Zubel, a piece commissioned for the Festival, will be performed by Ukrainian singer Viktoriia Vitrenko. Anna Sowa’s smar II first performance, one year delayed by the pandemic, will be finally presented as well.

19th Volume (2021) of the 'Polish Musicological Yearbook' available online

The nineteenth volume of Polish Musicological Yearbook of 2021 is now available on the yearbook’s website under the bookmark WYDANE NUMERY / 2021. Papers will also be published at the Sciendo platform. Printed version is being prepared by the Polish Music Edition (PWM), to be obtained at the internet bookstore of PWM.

2021 Yearbook contains representative group of papers presented at the International Musicological Conference ‘National identities – European universality: Music and Musical Life in Central-Eastern Europe (1918–2018)’ organized on the occasion of 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland.

The editorial team thank all the Authors, other Individuals and Institutions for substantive input, engagement and support expressed towards the Yearbook team.

Sound Chronicle of the 2019 Warsaw Autumn - on CDs and online

Delayed by the financing troubles we would like to finally present you with the next edition of the ‘Sound Chronicle of the Warsaw Autumn’. A set of the 2019 62nd Warsaw Autumn Festival recordings is published first.

Despite tremendous endeavours we were not able to obtain satisfactory funds thus this year’s Chronicle differs from what we are used to. It consists of three audio CDs only and presents recordings of inaugural and final concerts as well as Youth Section of the Polish Composers’ Union concert:

1st Witold Friemann International Clarinet Competition online

Friemann1st Witold Friemann International Clarinet Competition is a new online project of the Life and Art Foundation made in collaboration with Thailand Clarinet Association. The deadline for submitting applications is 31 January 2022.

The main goal is to promote clarinet music by a forgotten Polish composer Witold Friemann (1889-1977), whose excellent works enriched clarinet literature and are worth to promote worldwide. Characteristic style of his pieces comprising unique elements of Polish music will contribute to developing participants' taste as well as technical skills. The majority of clarinet pieces were dedicated to the splendid Polish clarinetist Ludwik Kurkiewicz (1906-1998), a promoter of Friemann’s music.

1st Witold Friemann International Clarinet Competition will be divided into 3 categories: senior (born after 1 January 1989), junior (born after 1 January 2003), and children (born after 1 January 2007). Each participant will receive a free membership of the International Clarinet Association until 31 December 2022.

The jury is composed of renowned clarinetists: Matthias Müller (Switzerland), Eddy Vanoosthuyse (Belgium), Barbara Borowicz (Poland), Robert Stefański (Poland), Rachel Yoder (USA), Kristine Dizon (USA), Nattapon Banjatammanon (Thailand), Chaiphat Tripipitsiriwat (Thailand), Pimnatthika Angkanajerathiti (Thailand).

Łódź | 21st Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition in Lodz

AM The Institute of Chamber Music of the Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź invites music ensembles to participate in the oldest Polish chamber music competition – the 21st Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition. Auditions will be held on 4-9 April 2022. Applications should be sent by 31 January 2022.

The competition history is over 60 years old. In 1995, it was named after Kiejstut Bacewicz – its initiator, outstanding chamber pianist, teacher, composer, long-time former Rector of the Conservatory of Music in Lodz. Until the fifteenth edition, the competition was an inter-university event for students of Polish and foreign music academies. Since 2007, it has been dedicated to all chamber ensembles that meet the requirements of the regulations – the average age of all members of the ensemble may not exceed 30 on the day of the competition.

The auditions will be held from 4 to 9 April 2022 in the Chamber Hall of the Academy of Music in Łódź. The winners' concert will take place in the Concert Hall of the Academy of Music in Łódź. The competition may be open to the public depending on the pandemic situation in the country. Applications with all the required files should be completed by 31 January 2022.

The 1st round of the Competition will take place in two categories:
• category A – vocal piano duo, instrumental duo (with piano), piano duo
• category B – piano trio, piano quartet, piano quintet.

The best ensembles in each category will be qualified for the second stage auditions, in which they will be classified jointly. The jury includes renowned artist: Urszula Kryger, Michał Drewnowski, Paweł Mazurkiewicz, Pierluigi Destro.
