Zakopane | 14th International Festival 'Music on the Heights'

POLMICOn September 10–17, 2022, the 14th International Festival ‘Music on the Heights’ will take place in Zakopane. Many great musical experiences await the audience throughout the week. The repertoire will maintain a perfect balance between the music of bygone eras and the art of our times.

We will recall the works of genius artists associated with Zakopane - Mieczysław Karłowicz, Karol Szymanowski and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, but also string trios by Schubert, Wajnberg, Maciejewski and Krzysztof Penderecki, the artist who was a festival guest in 2018.

There will also be popular works by baroque masters or accents related to the Year of Polish Romanticism. Among the festival performers there will be a number of new names, headed by the charismatic soprano Katarzyna Hołysz, who will present, among others, songs by Polish and Russian composers inspired by Adam Mickiewicz's Ballades and Romance. Well-known musicians will also perform at the Festival: violinist Piotr Pławner, cellist Rafał Kwiatkowski, violist Katarzyna Budnik, Cracow Clarinet Quartet, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki String Quartet or the Whoop Group, saxophone quartet, which evokes great enthusiasm of the audience.

Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the culture promotion fund as part of the ‘Music programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

Bytom | Silesian Choral Song Festival ‘Magnificat’

15th Silesian Choral Song Festival ‘Magnificat’ will take place on the 19th of November. The initiative is financed by the Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodeship, as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of joining part of Upper Silesia to Poland.

‘Magnificat’ will be held in two locations - in the church of the Holy Family in Bytom-Bobrek (National Choir Competition with workshops conducted by the composer Jan Krutul, whose specially composed work will be performed by all choirs after the announcement of the results) and in the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Bartholomew in Piekary Śląskie (Festival of Choirs associated in ŚZChiO with workshops of experts of the National Conference ‘I’ve got voice’).

Wrocław | Begin the new school year singing in NFM!

The National Forum of Music wants to give children a good start in life filled with beauty through the activities offered by the Educational Center of the National Forum of Music, as well as concerts aimed at younger audiences in the season 2022/2023. Pleasant atmosphere in one of the largest concert venues in Europe, safe surroundings, great professionals - all this inspires the development of the individual musical potential of each young person.

Various forms of artistic activity - music, singing, dance - stimulate the development of intellect and linguistic and social competences: participants of classes and concerts fulfill themselves through music and creative play, and also open up to art! This year, the NFM has prepared a diverse offer of activities taking place as part of the Education Center.

Cracow | Music images of Cracow legends

POLMICPorta Musicae Artistic Association invites you to a special evening at the Wawel Royal Castle. On September 11th, at 7 p.m. in the Senators' Hall, we will go on a journey through the world of legends.

The musical interpretation of Cracow legends will be presented by the Cracow Golden Quintet, and the stories will be presented in words by Piotr Krasnowolski. During the concert, we will hear the extraordinary Wojciech Kilar's Quintet for wind instruments, composed by him at the age of only 20, as well as the premiere performance of arrangements of Cracow legends, composed by Aleksander Dębicz commissioned by the Cracow Golden Quintet. These are extremely interesting and colorful compositions in which individual characters are represented by specific instruments that create a fairy-tale sound that perfectly illustrates the events contained in the legends.

Gdańsk | Multichannel Post Quartet: 4 world premieres in the post-industrial space of Gdańsk

POLMICThe "Multichannel Post Quartet" project is a multimedia event taking place in the post industrial space in the former Gdańsk Shipyard and in the building of the WL4 Mleczny Piotr Art Gallery, which will take place on September 10, 2022 in Gdańsk. During the two-hour audiovisual performance, four world premieres of works related to the genre of music and contemporary art will be presented, specially commissioned for the event by the NeoQuartet.

Recognized Polish and foreign composers were invited to the project - Paweł Szymański, Agnieszka Stulgińska, Gerard Pape (France), Michał Markiewicz and the visual artist Piotr Wyrzykowski. All works will be performed by a Tri-City string quartet specializing in the performance of contemporary music - NeoQuartet.

The idea of ​​the project is, on the one hand, an attempt to break the stereotype of the traditional approach to a cultural event, to enter the public space with art and to involve the audience in the creative process; on the other hand, it is a form of tribute to the artists whose compositions will be part of the event.

Sopot | 22nd Festival ‘Maria Fołtyn Kaleidoscope of Music Forms'

POLMIC22nd Festival ‘Maria Fołtyn Kaleidoscope of Music Forms’ which will be held on September 9–24, 2022, is dedicated to the patron of the festival on the 10th anniversary of her death.

The festival is a multi-year project referring to the pre – war music traditions of Sopot, concerning classical music presentations. Due to its interesting and unconventional setting, to the performances of eminent artists the festival is highly appreciated by the critics, the Tri-City audience and guests, from Poland and from abroad.

The festival has become a permanent part of Culture Map of Poland and Europe and one of the summer, tourist showcases of Pomerania presenting music from the Baroque period till modern times. This year it will host artists such as Dariusz Wójcik, Edyta Piasecka, Magdalena Cornelius-Kulig, Maciej Zimka, Duo Fortecello.

17th International Festiwal of G. G. Gorczycki

Eight concerts with the participation of celebrities of the Polish music scene will take place between the 10th of September and the 2nd of October, 2022. This year's edition of the Festival, entitled ‘Innovations’, concentrates on the greatest innovations in the history of music that took place in two eras: baroque and contemporary music. The innovations of both are decisive for the further course of music history.

During this year's edition of the Festival six works by Polish composers: Paweł Łukaszewski, Leszek Kołodziejski, Ignacy Zalewski, Adam Wesołowski and Michał Malec will be premiered.

This year, the following ensembles will perform: Capella Cracoviensis, Silesian Philharmonic - Silesian Chamber Orchestra, Katowice City Singers Ensemble ‘Camerata Silesia’ and soloists and conductors: Marek Toporowski, Łukasz Długosz, Agata Kielar-Długosz, Jan Tomasz Adamus, Anna Szostak, Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski, Aleksandra Gajecka-Antosiewicz, Leszek Kołodziejski, Ewa Uryga, Bartłomiej Duś.

Tarnowskie Góry | 1st Festiwal of Elżbieta Chojnacka

polmicBetween the 23rd and 25th of September, the 1st Festival of Elżbieta Chojnacka, dedicated to the outstanding Polish harpsichordist will take place in the Palace in Rybna. Admission to all events is free.

Participation in the festival is an invitation to enter the multi-colored and multi-stylistic sound world of the modern harpsichord accompanied by such instruments as soprano saxophone, accordion, cello and percussion. The festival events will include three concerts featuring works by Z. Krauze, T. Sikorski, A. Krzanowski, T. Kamieniak, T. Baird, M. Sawa, W. Glądys, S. Chojnowska, P. Grzelak, P. Stypułkowski, D. Strządała, Ł. Kurpas and I. Božičević.

There will be premieres of works by Leszek Kołodziejski and Roman Hyla.

All the concerts will be performed on a unique harpsichord built in 1982 for Elżbieta Chojnacka, an instrument inherited by A. Gajecka-Antosiewicz - the originator and artistic director of the Festival.

NOSPR: Tournée in Japan

The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra is a living legend: one of the best symphony orchestras in Poland and a brand recognized in the world. By giving concerts in the most distant corners of the globe, the NOSPR has been carrying out the mission of the ambassador of Polish culture for many years. In September 2022, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra sets off on a tour of Japan. It will be a return after a 20-year break, and also the sixth visit to the ‘country of the cherry blossom’ in the long history of the orchestra.

During the tour, the orchestra will be accompanied by two exceptional personalities: the US conducting icon Marin Alsop and the rising star of Japanese piano, Hayato Sumino.

Scheduled from September 7 to 19, the tour includes 11 concerts at the most important cultural centers in Japan, including Tokyo at the famous Suntory Hall.

Lusławice | 4th Bacewicz International Summer Music Academy in Lusławice!

POLMICBISMA Bacewicz International Summer Music Academy is an international piano masterclass, the fourth edition of which will be held at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Center in Lusławice. 63 talented pianists from all over the world applied to participate in the event. The courses will be conducted by teachers from prestigious music universities: Dmitri Alexeev, Grigory Gruzman, Giuseppe Guarrera and Julia Kociuban. On September 13-15, 2022 at 19.30 there will be concerts of the participants, and the event will be inaugurated by the winners of the previous edition on September 9 at 20.00. Admission free.

36 selected pianists from Poland, Switzerland, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Lithuania, China, Japan and Korea will work at the workshop with professors from the Royal College of Music in London, the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar, the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin and the G. and K. Bacewicz in Łódź.

Kasparas Mikuzis and Claudio Berra will perform during the inauguration. At the Final Gala concluding the courses four best young pianists participating in the project will present themselves and one of them will be awarded the International Award of Grażyna Bacewicz 2022.

Słupsk | 56th Polish Piano Festival

On September 3–8, 2022, the 56th Polish Piano Festival will be held in Słupsk. It is the largest and one of the oldest events for Polish pianists and harpsichordists and a place to present a comprehensive repertoire, including works by Polish composers.

The main idea of the Festival is to present Polish music in the context of world music literature and Polish performers. This year's edition will be attended by, among others Mateusz Krzyżowski, Joanna Marcinkowska, Piotr Sałajczyk and Bogdan Czapiewski. The festival will also be an opportunity for piano debuts and premieres of specifically commissioned works. This year, there will be a premiere of a new piece by Andrzej Karałow Vocalise - a tribute to Witkacy's landscapes, inspired by Witkacy's paintings.

Warsaw | Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra: premiere of the 'Concerto for Harpsichord and String Orchestra by Tomasz Kamieniak

POLMICOn the 10th of September, 2022 at 19.00 at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra conducted by Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk will perform the premiere of the Concerto for Harpsichord and String Orchestra by Tomasz Kamieniak. We will also hear works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Gioachino Rossini and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Krzysztof Jakowicz, Piotr Baron and Anna Krzysztofik-Buczyńska will be the concert soloists.

Tomasz Kamieniak is a composer of over two hundred piano, harpsichord, chamber and choral pieces as well as music to seven films. His new, three-part Concerto for Harpsichord and String Orchestra (2021) was inspired by the art of Anna Krzysztofik-Buczyńska and is an interesting and creative discourse with tradition.

Admission to the concert is free!

Cracow | Inaugurating concert of the Sinfonietta Cracovia artistic season 2022/2023

POLMICOn the 9th of September, 2022, the Sinfonietta Cracovia Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Cracow will officially start a new artistic season. Four soloists, five compositions in the concert programme and one main character at the Karol Szymanowski Cracow Philharmonic at 20.30. The stars of the evening will certainly be maestra Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, violinist Daniel Stabrawa and violist Ignacy Miecznikowski.

The new Artistic Director of Sinfonietta Cracovia, and at the same time its first Conductor, offers the Cracovians an extremely varied program, in which, apart from the classics (Mozart), we will hear the repertoire for whose interpretations the Sinfonietta was appreciated from its beginnings (Penderecki), and the sounds of the 20th century neoclassicism (Martinů, Spisak) and works by film music composer Malcolm Arnold.

Bisztynek | 2nd Festival of Beautiful Music in Bisztynek

This year's edition of the festival will fill three September dates with the beauty of music: September 9, 10, and 17. We want these meetings to show a new perspective on the role of music in today's world. Therefore, we will look at the „Horyzont” (tr. the Horizon), which will be present with us as the guiding slogan. It will be a story about young artists who want to go beyond their own and the horizons outlined by the world. It is also a chance to see and even hear the phenomena that appear on the horizon ... in the concerts entitled „W zenicie" (tr. At the Zenith) and „W pełni” (tr. To the Full).

The festival is dedicated to every recipient, regardless of age and place of residence. We are inviting whole families, young and old, residents and tourists of the regionto participate and enjoy the beauty of music. We hope for a meeting full of inspiration, which will result in the continuation of the festival and the creation of new musical initiatives. Admission to all events is free.

Niwiska, Dzikowiec, Cmolas | Ballades and Romances in Podkarpacie manors

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the publication of Ballades and Romances, the Association of Polish Chamber Musicians will hold a unique project ‘Summer evenings in Podkarpacie manors’.

During the weekend from the 9th to the 11th of September 2022, Adam Mickiewicz's poetry will be recited by famous actors, accompanied by music of W. Żeleński, F. Chopin, J. Brahms and K. Szymanowski will be performed in three towns. The events will be preceded by lectures. Free admission to all concerts.

The project was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion fund and the budget of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
