Łódź | 200 years of Polish Romanticism and 3rd of May National Holiday!

Julia Kociuban's piano recital on the occasion of the Year of Polish Romanticism and the Third of May National Day will take place on the 3rd of May 3 2022 at the Łódź Philharmonic. The concert will be available on the streaming portal www.drzwidokultury.pl.

The Polonaise is the most important and oldest Polish dance with a rich history. In the era of Romanticism polonaises were composed, among others, by Józef Elsner, Karol Kurpiński, Michał Kleofas Ogiński, Maria Szymanowska and above all by Fryderyk Chopin, who created not only stylized dances, but also - especially in the last period of his work - dance poems in the form of a polonaise.

Warsaw | Final of the Young Musician of the Year 2022 competition on the 2nd of May!

On the 2nd of May At 20.00 in the Warsaw Philharmonic, the final of the Young Musician of the Year 2022 competition will be held. During the ceremony the best young musician playing a classical instrument will be selected. The winner will represent Poland at the jubilee 20th Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians in Montpellier, France, in July 2022.

This year's edition is unique because it will take place on the stage of the National Philharmonic for the first time, and secondly - live and without pandemic restrictions. Young artists will be accompanied by the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra conducted by Marek Wroniszewski.

The gala concert will feature: violinist Milena Pioruńska (M. Karłowicz Secondary Music School in Poznań), oboist Małgorzata Cieszko (St. Moniuszko State Music School Complex in Bielsko-Biała), accordionist Józef Wajdzik (Music School Complex in Poznań), clarinettist Paweł Libront (the A. Rubinstein State Music School Complex in Bydgoszcz) and pianist Krzysztof Wierciński (Z. Brzewski Secondary Music School Complex of State Music Schools No. 1 in Warsaw).

The co-organizers of this year's edition of the Young Musician of the Year competition are the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage together with the National Institute of Music and Dance and TVP Kultura. The live concert will be broadcast by TVP Kultura and rebroadcast by TVP 1.

Lusławice | Spring Festival De Natura Sonoris

Between the 1st and 3rd of May 2022 De Natura Sonoris Festival of the Year will be held in Lusławice. The event refers to the work, ideas and passions of Krzysztof Penderecki.

The Silesian Quartet and Jan Kotula, double bass player will perform the original version of the Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa Quintet as well as quartets of Eugeniusz Knapik and Krzysztof Penderecki. Iwona Hossa and Robert Marat will present songs by Szymanowski, Dvořak, Penderecki, Ogiński, Gablenz and Żeleński. A recital of Aimi Kobayashi (the winner of the 4th Prize at the 18th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition will also take place.

Gdańsk | 9th International Scientific Conference ‘Piano Music’

Between the 5th and 6th of May 2022 Music Theory in co-operation with Piano Departments of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk will organize the 19th International Scientific Conference ‘Piano Music’.

The debate will revolve around a wide range of topics like performance, interpretation, creative, analytical and cultural issues centered around piano music.

Nearly 40 speakers confirmed their participation in the Conference. The Honorary Chairperson of the Scientific Committee is Prof. Irena Poniatowska (The Fryderyk Chopin Institute).

A monographic concert devoted to Joanna Bruzdowicz will take place on the 5th of May at 7 p.m. Composer’s works will be presented by the pianist Tomasz Jocz.

Katowice | Premieres Concert 'To the words'

2022 is an extraordinary year for Polish culture - 200 years have passed since the first edition of Adam Mickiewicz's Ballades and Romance, a work considered to be a manifesto of Polish Romanticism. The Polish Radio Choir also decided to take part in the jubilee conversation about Polish Romanticism and organized a concert ‘To the Words’ - a musical attempt to present a wide range of ideas expressed in the poetry of Polish romantics and their successors. The concert will take place on the 30th of April at 6.00 p.m. in the hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Four composers were invited to take part in the project: Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa, Paweł Łukaszewski, Piotr Tabakiernik and Szymon Godziemba-Trytek, who deal with Adam Mickiewicz's Crimean Sonnets, the poetry of Cyprian Kamil Norwid and the works of Zygmunt Krasiński. It is complemented by a composition by Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa to the poetry of Bolesław Leśmian.

Co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from Culture Promotion Fund as part of the 'Composers' Commissions' programme of the National Institute of Music and Dance.

Works by Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa and Paweł Łukaszewski were published by the Polish Music Edition.

Vienna | Premiere of 'The Ancient Night' by Wojciech Chałupka in the Golden Hall of Musikverein

On the 30th of April 2022 at 7.30 p.m. a premiere of a composition The Ancient Night for soprano saxophone, accordion and symphony orchestra by Wojciech Chałupka - a third-year student in composition class of Prof. Dariusz Przybylski at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music will take place in the legendary Golden Hall of Vienna Musikverein.

The title of the piece refers to the pagan festival of Kupala Night. On that night of the summer solstice rituals were performed to worship fire, water, sun, moon, fertility and love. The five parts of The Ancient Night allude to them.

The piece was commissioned by Duo Aliad composed of Polish saxophonist Michał Knot and the Serbian accordionist Bogdan Laketic. The ensemble and the Wiener Jeunesse Orchestra conducted by Herbert Böck will present the composition to the audience for the first time. The artists will also perform works by Franz Schubert and Igor Stravinsky.

Cracow | 6th International Festival & 1st Piano Duo Competition 'Duettissimo'

On the 29th of April 2022 at 19.30 and on the 30th of April 2022 at 18.00 final and laureates concerts of the 1st International Piano Duo Competition will take place in the the Cracow Philharmonic. The concerts are organized as part of a cooperation with the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Cracow and belong to the sixth edition of the International Piano Duo Festival ‘Duettissimo!’.

Organized by the Department of Chamber Music in cooperation with the Department of Theory and Interpretation of the Musical Work of the Academy of Music in Cracow, the Festival is considered a unique event of international importance, focusing on this particular chamber formation, which is a piano duo. Stenzl Piano Duo, Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo, Duo Turgeon, Miroirs Piano Duo, Lutosławski Piano Duo, Ravel Piano Duo and Chopin Piano Duo have performed at the Festival so far. This year, as part of the sixth edition of the festival, the 1st International Piano Duo Competition was organized in which twenty-six piano duos took part in three stages of the competition.

Warsaw | Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra: Guthman, Skoryk and Grieg

Concert of the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra on the 29th of April 2022 at 7 p.m. in the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw will be conducted by Piotr Sułkowski, general and artistic director of the Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic in Olsztyn.

The national anthem Szcze ne wmerła Ukrajina i sława, i wola will open the concert Romantic Melody in A minor by Myroslav Skoryk will also be performed.

Another this season's long-awaited premiere of the new work with the participation of the Orchestra will be Gary Guthman's Concerto for Flute and Symphony Orchestra. Gary Guthman is an American composer and teacher and a respected jazz trumpet player.

His work was created as part of the ‘Composing Commissions’ program carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

Bydgoszcz | International Scientific Conference "Composers and Functional Music"

POLMICOn April 27-29, 2022, the Faculty of Composition, Music Theory and Sound Engineering of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz organizes the International Scientific Conference "Composers and Functional Music".

In the virtual conference room musicologists, music theorists, composers and librarians will discuss a specific type of creativity that we used to place on the margins of artistic music, various functions of art and will try to answer to questions about the value of socially useful music.

The invitation to participate in the Conference was accepted by over 30 researchers from many universities and academic centers in Poland (Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Poznań, Gdańsk, Lublin, Toruń, Łódź, Katowice, Zielona Góra, Bydgoszcz) as well as from Sydney, New York, Kiev, Braşov and Novi Sad.

The Conference will be broadcast on the Facebook profile of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.
